Chapter 30
It's nice to have a friend by Taylor Swift"Do you always go to a place like this, Omari?" Thalia asked when they finally entered the club where she would meet Rukawa's fraternity friends in person. It was already nine in the evening when they entered. There were already a lot of people inside the club and the music was blasting. Some people are dancing in the middle while the others are drinking in their own tables. In short, she felt uncomfortable with the place.
"Don't worry, it's fine, the music is just loud," Rukawa answered her casually, their hands holding each other. May lumapit naman sa kanila na lalake. The guy gave Rukawa a quick fist bump and turned to her.
"Mico, this is my girlfriend, Thalia." Rukawa introduced them. She gave his friend a small smile. She remembered the guy was the one who recruited Rukawa to join the fraternity.
Mico grinned. "So you're that med student girlfriend of Omari."
"Uhm, yes..." she awkwardly responded.
"How long are you going to stay here in Cebu?"
"Uhm, it's my last day today. Uuwi na ako tomorrow." She answered truthfully and held Rukawa's hand tighter.
"Well then, let's have fun tonight. Let's go to our table. Naghihintay na 'yung iba sa inyo."
They both followed Mico to their table. Thalia noticed they were five men already sitting—with girls around them. Umupo na rin silang dalawa ni Rukawa. The girls who were with Rukawa's fraternity friends were wearing sexy dresses which you would wear to party—while her, it was just a simple long sleeved white blouse and some black skinny jeans. She was just basic.
Rukawa started introducing her to the others. Pilit na ngiti lang ang ibinibigay niya sa mga ito. She could already tell there were something off about her boyfriend's friends.
"Your girlfriend is really pretty, Omari, I may say," Rukawa's other frat friend, Dale, uttered while staring at her. "You look like half-ish. Are you like half-American or something, Thalia?"
"Uhm..."
"She's half Swedish," Rukawa answered for her. "Her father is from Sweden."
"Kaya pala, you're half-European and that's cool. Omari here got high taste in women." Dale winked at them and Rukawa chuckled.
Thalia just tried herself to talk and be friendly towards Rukawa's friends. She even learned that the women who were with his friends were just strangers whom they met at the club during that night. Rukawa was also the only first year law student among his fraternity friends. Most of them are already in their third years and fourth years.
"By the way, for the prefinals week, Renji will give us some leaks, we just have to study those para hindi na tayo mahirapan, just like the midterms..." Mico told the group and Thalia noticed the others cheering and happily agreeing to what he said.
"What does he mean about the leaks?" Thalia whispered to Rukawa who was holding a shot of whiskey while talking to another guy opposite to them.
"Omari." She called his surname when he seemed to ignore her.
"Huh?" He turned to her, confused.
"Anong 'yung leak na sinasabi niya?" She asked him once again.
Rukawa shrugged. "Just some notes. Don't mind it." He told her and went back to talking. Rukawa was ignoring her presence again. Napabuntong-hininga na lang siya. She shook her head instead.
She stood up.
"I'm going home," she suddenly said to her boyfriend and didn't wait for him to say anything. Kaagad siyang tumalikod at nagsimula nang maglakad.
