Chapter 14

I'm in the kitchen, finishing baking cherry pie. Dad sits next to the gramophone, listening to jazz. I love watching him enjoy music. The smell of the pie spreads all over the house and my stomach starts to cramp from hunger.

I haven't eaten anything yet and I'm really hungry. Dad brought pizza from a small Italian restaurant we liked to go to with Mom. The best pizza ever. As well as memories.

Chopping the pie to cool, I hear the doorbell ring. I look at Dad, a little surprised. We don't  expect anyone. He is looking at me with a question mark above his head.

"I'll open the door." I say as i leave the pie. I open the door, and see Wooyoung standing in front.

"Hey." he says softly.

"Hey." I return the greeting.

"We didn't make it to that lunch, do you want to go to dinner?" I look into his dark eyes, which look at me with hope.

"Who is it?" my dad asks, when he opens the door completely and sees Wooyoung.
"Hey little Jung, what are you doing here?" he asks. I hope he doesn't think we're in a relationship, because, last time we talked about Wooyoung he thought there's something between us, but there is only an empty hole.

"Good evening, Dr. Choi. I wanted to take Lora out to dinner at Paradise, because she helped me a lot with literature today." he says.

"Oh, okay." my Dad response. Wait, what? What about me and what I want? Maybe I don't want to go?

"Wait, really? What about our dinner?" I ask. That pizza is so delicious, i really want to eat that pizza.

"I will save you a slice. Go have fun." He said. I am surprised. Since when does he want me to hang out with Wooyoung? He was always in some way San's property, that is, San had it only for himself. He rarely liked to share anything, not even company.

"Put on your jacket, it's getting cold." Wooyoung said to me.

"Just don’t stay up late. And Lora, put on your jacket." Dad shouts from the living room. What are the two of them now? One person?

I take my jacket, put on my sneakers and go out. I notice that his car is not there, so I ask

"Aren't we going by car?"

"No. I want to walk with you, I think we'll have some air. And did you bake something? It smells great when you walk into a house." he is like a child. He is interested in everything and sees everything.

"Well, we will walk then, I think I will enjoy the fresh air, and I baked cherry pie." I say.

"Mmmm must be delicious."he says, and I giggle.

"You are like a child." I say.

"What can I say, I love when you bake. It's very delicious." he says with a smile. But after this there was an awkward silence, of a few minutes as we walked.

"Listen, sorry for today. Emily came because she has a problem..." i cut him off. I don't care about her problems.

"Don't. I don't want to know about her problems." I say, harshly.

"No, you need to know, because you think I want her back. But it's not that. Well, not anymore. Her parents are also divorcing, but please don't tell anyone. And I understand her best in a way. That's why she came." he continues to explain. Yeah, he understands her the best. Only his parents are divorcing..

"Yeah, I know you understand her the best, but I seem to be the one who knows her better. I don't care, it's your business. I don't know why you're telling and explaining this to me. I don't want to know, and there's nothing between us. You don't have to tell me anything. When I said I didn’t want her in my life, I really meant it." I said, looking in front of myself.
