I awoke with a start. "That was just a nightmare," I told myself. "Just a nightmare," I told myself again. I went out to catch a meal again and came upon a squirrel. I quietly and lightly stalked a little bit closer to the squirrel, and at just the right time, I pounced onto the squirrel and quickly killed it. I also felt bad for the squirrel. But it would have a nice life in my belly. After I ate it, I went back to running. Running, running, running.
All I have been doing for the past few days. I remember that there was a huge lake with a path leading to our camp. I just needed to find the lake.
When I was running, I saw a raccoon on a really big tree that was filled with bright green leaves, and asked, "Do you know where a really big lake is?"
" Which one?" The raccoon replied.
"I don't know which one, I was captured right when I was born, and I don't remember a lot."
"There are a few, there's one that is right below the North Star, one that is always right below the lunar eclipse when it happens, and-"
"The one below that lunar eclipse, it has to be that one. That's probably how I got my name. I was born on the lunar eclipse. So my name is Lunar."
"My name is Murray. It's a common raccoon name."
"Can you show me the way to the lake under the lunar eclipse?"
"It's called The Lunar Lake, and sure. I'll go with you too since I have absolutely nothing to do. I have a really boring life.
"Really, that's great! Not the boring life part, but that you'll go with me!Nice to meet you Murray."
"Nice to meet you too."
As Murray told Lunar how to get there,
a tiger found them talking and waited for the right moment to seize them. They're going to be a delicious meal
today.
"Wait, be quiet for a second. I think I hear something." We both froze, leaving a heavy silence behind us.
The tiger hid behind a bush so his future meals wouldn't see him.
"I see a tail," Murray answered.
"Oh, I see it. I wonder who that might be,"
"Well, we shouldn't be afraid of them," Murray replied and got back to talking about the journey.
But the tiger was still there. Now is the time, he thought. I can get them now.
He pounced but barely missed them.
"Watch out! It's a tiger!" I shouted.
"Run!!!" Cried Murray. "Follow me,"
Murray ran and I followed. He was pretty quick for a raccoon. Probably because he ran away from other predators. But I was still a little bit faster. I ran I little bit faster so I could run right beside Murray. I looked back at the tiger. He was catching up.
"Faster!" I cried. But Murray was getting tired and the tiger was catching up.
"Get on my back!" I told Murray. I stopped for just a second for him to get on my back. Then I ran faster, and faster than I ever did before. But if a tiger was chasing you, or you were running for your life, you would probably run faster too. Like, who would want to die?
Suddenly, Murray fell off my back. "Murray, quickly get back on my back." I said.
But he was too tired and slow to get on my back and the tiger was catching up.
I crouched so he could do it faster. But it wasn't fast enough.
I didn't want to do this, but he left me no choice.
I took him by his scruff and ran while he was in my mouth. I kept running, hoping to tire the tiger out. But I was also getting slower.
I have to keep going though.
