"Melcanne! Its time to wake up! Five o'clock!"

Melcanne Gabor was still tired. She didn't want to go to school. It may of been Friday, but all Melcanne wanted to do was sleep until noon, then spend the rest of the day with Mortiz up by the oak. But no. It was 5 o'clock on Friday morning, she had to be at school by 6:45, ready to start at 7 o'clock.

Mutter Gabor bursted into the her bedroom, already awake, bursting with energy.                                          "Guten morgen, Melcanne! Come, up now!" Mutter Gabor had a short patience, and her kind, motherly voice faded as she opened the curtains in her daughter's room. Melcanne's closed eyes winced at the sudden sunlight. "Melcanne, I am serious. If you are not awake and getting dressed in fifteen minutes, I will take one of Vater's belt, and-" Mutter Gabor stopped in her tracks. She felt horrible, just thinking of hurting her only child made her feel sick. Instead, she sat down on Melcanne's bed, and stoked her arm. "I'm sorry, Melcanne... But you do need to wake up." Mutter Gabor got up and started to walk out of her room. "Up, tochter. Its a new day!"

Melcanne arose from her bed, deciding to not be a horrible tochter. She went to her chest of drawers, and opened one. The drawer contained one black, full-length school dress, high-length socks, a black cardigan with her school crest on it, a pair of black shoes and a black, short school dress. The short dress wasn't originally short, it was originally like her full-length dress, however Melcanne detested long skirts, therefore cut the skirt until it was high up her thigh and added netting trim to the bottom. She chose the the short dress. Why not?

Fifteen minutes passed, and Melcanne heard Mutter Gabor return to her room.

"Melcanne!" "Mutter!" Mutter Gabor entered the room, beaming as she usally did when Melcanne finally was awake and dressed. "Oh! Oh, my child!" Shocked, again... Its only a dress! "Your... um... your dress!"

"Oh mother, please let me wear it!" Melcanne begged as she held her mother's hands. "I love this dress so much! It makes me feel free, free to express myself! I dont care if the school doesnt like it, Mortiz is the only one who cares and understands..."

"Please understand, Melcanne. You are more than lucky to be going to school. There are four-hundred students in your school, and there are only twenty girls learning there, including yourself! Dont blow this wonderful chance for yourself. People think females dont need an education, so you are a very lucky girl. Put on your proper dress, then come downstairs and have you bread and butter."

"But Mutter-" "PLEASE! Don't ruin this chance. You deserve great things and you will get that be having an education. Trust me, the school will be funny about uniform, and you could be expelled... Please Melcanne. Please!"

Melcanne sighed, admitting defeat. "Okay, Mutter. I promise. I'll change dresses." "Thank you, Melcanne. Good girl." Mutter Gabor left the room, with a thankful smile that made Melcanne feel happy inside. The door closed, and Melcanne looked into her mirror, taking a look at the image she liked. A young girl, in a short black dress (showing a 'resonable' amount of leg), black cardigan, grey high socks, and cute shoes. But soon she'll be covered up, her true feelings hidden.

Only Mortiz, she thought, Only Mortiz understands...
