out of time { the hunger games }

chapter 2- the capital

Haymich's pov:

I wake up to ebony shouting at us "it's a big big day everyone up" ugh why, in 12 we would sleep in today. But I guess we aren't in 12 anymore. I get up and take a shower, so many buttons, I turn it on and wash my dark brown hair, the water flattens the slight curls. After my shower I get dressed into a white top and black bottoms. And walk out, everyone but maysilee is sat there. I sit down and grab some pre butterd bread and eat it. Unlike most of 12 I made sure I always ate well, I was taught to never ever go hungry or let anyone in your home go hungry.

After 10 minutes of talking maysilee walks in with damp hair. "Nice of you to join us maysilee" rummage says "couldn't figure out all the shower buttons" she says and sits down. That comment makes me laugh "its not hard to get" ebony says. "Sorry we aren't all rich and can Offord showers with 300 buttons" I snap.

We pull up into the capital and I stand up to have a look "holy shit its huge!" I say "yea no shit sherlock" maysilee says. She's from the rich part of 12, she has bright blonde hair and stunning blue eyes. The other two trips are both from the seem, like me, olive coloured skin, gray eyes, and dark hair. We pull into the train station and see all tge capital people in their fancy outfits, and wild wigs shouting and calling at us.

"Wow" I hear from the other tributes on the train, except maysilee, she stayed silent just like me. "Why are they dressed like that?" Maysilee asks "maysilee donner! That is fashion" ebony says and I chuckle. We get lead out of the silver train and into a huge building whare we are put in a room to be groomed and tidyd up.

After they pluck the ruff hairs out of my body and clean me up they leave me for my stylest. "Hello haymich" she says as she walks in "hey" I reply. "Tonight is the tributes parade and I'm here to make an impression, my name is laxey Henry" he says "so what? Gonna dress me up on some fancy costume?" I say "well yea, your going to be dressed up in in an outfit that represents your district" he says

"So 12 is coal miners?" I say "yep so your gonna be in a black jacket and trousers and covers in black dust" jasper says. I scoff as he brings out my costume. "We are all wearing this?" I ask "yep all 4 of you will be in hn..
basically the same outfit, the girls will be in knee high boots though."

I put on the outfit and jasper Henry puts black dust all over me whare the black cloths aren't. After an hour or so we get lead out into a huge stable like room. There is double the amount of horses and chariots  as all the other years to fit all the tributes.

"Tributes mount up" i hear a voice say from speakers above the stables and I stand on the chariot next to a blonde girl, maysilee. We are tight at the end, I don't know whether its a good or bad thing but no ones eyes will be on 12. The massive doors open and after 5 minutes of the other tributes trotting out tge get black horses attached to me and maysilee's chariot take off into a controlled slow trot.

"Next time your screaming at midnight  do it in a sound proof room" I hear maysilee say and my eyes widen "sorry" I say. We are revealed out into a huge stadium type place with hundreds of thousands of capital people. Just as I expected, no ones eyes were on me and maysilee "oh look at tge tributes of this year they are just great, the outfits are so well represented of tge districts" ceaser flickerman says. The tributes were nor great really, the 2 from my district were both only 13, me and maysilee were 16. Tge tributes from 1, 2 and 4 were decent but the rest of us didn't stand a chance.

All 12 chariots in a big circle stood thare, most terrified, some exited. I could see my maysilee's face she wasn't worried, she was mad, I don't know why.

After an hour or so we go back to the stables to talk to our mentors and stylests. We go into what seems like an apartment "each district gets their own floor, you guys get the top floor because your from 12" rummage says. We get into our floor and find our rooms, I take a shower to get all the gross coal dust of me and change into some actual clothes. I go for my regular joggers and a loose shirt.

I walk out into the dining room and see an Avox girl is putting coal in a fire, back home we work our arses off for that coal. I sit down and everyone but maysilee is thare. We start to eat "will one of you go and get Mrs donner she should eat something" ebony says. "I'll go" I say and stand up to walk to her room. I knock on the door "what?" She says "ebony says you should eat something she asked me to come get you" I say waiting for her. The door opens and the blonde girl steps out "fine" she says and we walk back to the table. "Nice of you to join us maysilee" rummage says in a rude tone, she sits down next to me and grabs some meat on her plate. "Tomorrow you will go to the training centre, you will have 3 days to train and then a private assessment before your in the games" rummage says and I nod.

I finish eating and go back to my room, I sit in silence until I hear a knock. "Yea?" I say "can I come in?" Says a feminine voice "sure" I say. I  comes maysilee "hey" I say "hi" she says "you need something?" I ask her "to talk to someone sane" she says and I chuckle "the amount of food I saw ebony put in tge trash, people are starving at home and they are throwing it away here" she says in a mad tone of voice. "I know right, and tge way they are using so much coal, we work our arses of back home for nothing" I say

"Yea" she says and sits next to me "I hate the capital, I wish snow was dead" she says "me to" I reply. "Its late, you should go back to your room and go to sleep" I say to her. "I probably should" she says and goes back to her room.

I lay down and try to fall asleep. I fail and lay thare in silence for a few hours and then force myself into a slight sleep.
