chapter 5- the games begin

Haymich's pov: (as usual)

After what feels like 5 minutes after I fall asleep im already awake "everybody up up up" I hear from ebony and then rummage "eb give them some time, its a big day" he says. What he means is "give them some time they are probably all gonna die today" but i guess what he said is fine to.

I get myself up and take a quick shower before getting dressed into an outfit layed on my desk. Must be our outfit for the games. Its black cargo pants and a loose black top with a pair of brown work boots, kinda like the ones the miners wear but much nicer.

I go to the living room area to see everyone but maysilee "whares maysilee?" I say "in her room, she refused to come out and she locked the door so we can't go in" aria says. "I'll get her" I say and walk to her room. I knock on the door "no go away rummage" i hear her say "its me, haymich unlock the fucking door maysilee" I say and hear frantick footsteps.

She opens the door "what?" She says "you gotta come out" I guess i must have some charm because she's soon following me to the others. "Your a special one haymich" rummage says "yea yea I'm great I know" I say in a cocky tone witch makes maysilee laugh. I smile at her before sitting down and picking up a bit of bread. I gotta eat as much as I can before I go with little to no food for a good few days. If I last that long.

We eat and talk for 30 minutes before we get up to go. In the hovercraft a woman is going about with a syringe. "Arm please" she gets to me, I know what it is but its probably freaking the younger kids out. None of the rest of my district are in my hovercraft, there is 4 hovercraft crafts that each hold 12 tributes.

After we land im directed into a room, its never been touched by a tribute before. I see my stylest, laxy, waiting for me "here" he picks up a jacket and helps me put it on "thanks" I say and run my hand through my scruffy brown hair. "30 seconds to launch" I hear a voice through the speakers. He pulls out a small ring from his pocket "your token" he says and hands it to me. Its a silver and black ring with my brothers name carved into it "thank you laxy" I say "15 seconds to launch" the voice says again.

I slip the ring onto my finger and step in the tube after 10 seconds it says "preparing to launch" and then up I go. I'm blinded by the light of the area. I look around, its gorgeous; fresh green grass and flowers and tall trees and rivers. I'm taken aback. "45... 44... 43.. 42.. 41.. 40.." the voice is shouting. I'm trying to look whare im running to, i see a big black bag and some knives next to it. Perfect.

"10... 9.. 8.. 7.." come on haymich get ready "6.. 5.. 4.. 3.. 2.. 1.. let the 50th hunger games begin!" I'm suddenly off like a bullet, running as fast as my legs will take me. Within seconds I'm at the massive silver cornucopia with the bag luged of my shoulder and my hand grasping around a knife and a spare one attached to my bag. Its weird, no one else has taken more than a few steps. Thatd a good thing for me though. I'm off like a bullet again deep into the forest.

I decide not to go far towards to mountains as thats probably whare everyone would go. I hear a few cannobs go off. Thare we go people have shaped out of their transe. I take to a large tree to look at my pack so im safe. In my pack is my spare knife, 3 apples, a sleeping bag, a knife sharpener,bit of plastic and a water tester . Alright we can work with this.

I get down from my tree and walk deeper into the forest. Soon I sit against a tree to rest for 5 minutes then move again. I test the water of a river neer by me, its poisonin. Shit. Once it starts to get dark I find a decently hidden away spot to hide for the night and pull out my sleeping bag, im glad its not bright coloured. Its camo so I blend in. I keep my knife closely gripped in my hand just in case but I think I'm safe.

The anthom starts and I look to the sky to see who is dead, or more so who is still alive. All careers lived through the first day, 1 girl from 3 died, a boy and a girl from 5, a few from the rest of the districts but im happy to see no one from 12 is dead. I'm just hoping aria and axel are up a tree safe somewhere. And I hope maysilee is safe and hidden.
