Chapter 2

Daniel was thinking over all of the things that he saw outside of the laboratory while he was there. Remembering all the faces of the people there and of where and what rooms were useful to him. He remembered that the weapons room was three doors down from where he stayed and the giant indoor gym where he would spend most of his time was twenty doors down from his room there. The kitchen was located...

A loud bang from outside interrupted his thoughts. Aaron came running down the stair with a scared and worried look on his face. Daniel only raised an eyebrow and got off the chair.

“What is it?” Another loud bang rang off from just outside the front door.

“Zombies are at the front door,” Aaron looked terrified while he pointed his small hand gun at the door.

“How many and what is the easiest way to kill them?”

“Um…there’s about twenty or so,” realization must have hit him since he looked at Daniel with shook. “Don’t go out there they will tear you apart.”

“How do you kill them and keep them dead?” Aaron only shook his head and wouldn’t answer. “Fine I’ll figure it out on my own.”

“Take there heads off and they won’t come back,” Daniel smiled and patted Aaron on the his face while he passed him to go up stairs. Foot steps followed him up the stairs. “What are you planning to do?”

“Jump out a window and end their lives for good,” Daniel saw a window with a single chair and a pair of binoculars at them. “Stay here and try not to hit me while you cover me with your hand gun.” Aaron nodded, Daniel opened up the window and looked down and laughed. Some of the undead looked up at him as he spread his wings wide. A thought of just how easy it would be to fly away from here and leave Aaron and the little kid to their fates, but he pushed it aside as he took to the air.

The thrill of flying went through him as he soared into the sky and saw the complete destruction that befouled the streets of the city he was in: buildings were crumbling where explosions went off, tanks stood still as their drivers either ran from them or died in them. And the bodies that scorned the streets were immense: people in uniforms laid down with scratch makes and bites taken out of them, the undead which are now dead littered the streets.

Anger filled its way through Daniel’s body as he dived back down behind the mass of undead which threatened to break through the barricades and kill the people inside. He pulled out his sword as the first one turned to look at him. The face was male but with all the decay from days of being in the sun, it was revolting but Daniel managed to hold down the meal he just had by taking its head clean of with a swipe of his wing while he lunged forwards with his sword spearing another through the face. Then another with his left wing.

The excitement of battle poured into his body as his adrenaline started up and everything seemed clearer and slower. Gun shots rang from above him befalling two zombies as he cleaved off another two. A sharp pain came from his left thigh as he looked down he saw the cause of it. A zombie had its teeth deep within his flesh and about to tear it off. Daniel swiped downwards with his right wing taking its head off and released its mouth at the same time. He took flight again to allow the wound to heal. Aaron was still firing off rounds taking a zombie with each shot he released.

The wound healed slowly and by the time it was completely healed there was only four zombies left. Daniel landed on one with his sword going through his head and down through his mouth. He clipped two more with his wings and Aaron got the last with a shot through its eyes. Daniel sucked in a deep breath and released it slowly to relax. The only thing that they thought him there which was at least kind of useful was how to relax after doing a lot of hard work and excise.
