- neglected roots

i always left my door open for you to water my flowers
i never knew how much water they needed
but you somehow did
you always knew exactly what they needed

i had left the door open one day
and you didn't water my flowers
half of them died while the others clung to the soil, scared to get ripped off
i trusted you

you said it would never happen again
so i forced myself to trust you again
i left my door unlocked
and you started to water them again

but the soil was bitter
it started to reject the water
forcing it out once you were gone
my flowers forced themselves to turn into cactuses
they didn't need you anymore

but you kept coming
and kept watering them
you couldn't see that the seed had changed
you couldn't see the real plant

you ignored it
you forced yourself to ignore the change
you forced yourself to deal with the change
you dealt with the fact they were always dry

i saw that my plants weren't happy
i kept leaving the door unlocked
worried that it would upset you
you were happy to still water them

but one day you forgot about the roots
you didn't care about them
you damaged them
and all they could do was cry the water you forced into them

i decided my plants deserved better
and so i locked my door.
