Previously~~
Soma and I were at home waiting, Soma thought I was suspended because I was home and wouldn't tell him exactly why, he worries too much for his own good. I haven't told anyone that I was headed to the same high school as him.
The land-shark lady came back, she wrecked the fridge, took all the ingredients out and threw them on the floor and then put salt all over them, then asked for a nice juicy steak, Soma made her his Potato Steak, which looked good.
The land-shark lady moaned at the smell of the potatoes, when she took a bite it looked like she was about to explode, I wondered 'How good could Soma's cooking be' Soma took the plate away from her just as she was about to grab another piece. Soma went to throw it away but the shark lady said she would do anything so she could finish the rest of the potato steak, Soma made her promise to never come to this restaurant again, and she greedily accepted just wanting to finish the steak.
When she left we started cleaning up, he went to work on the sign and I went to the fridge, then I heard a ruckus outside, I went out there and Soma was attempting not to fall off the ladder, turns out his dad is closing up shop for a while, and he's going into Totsuki academy as well. Turns out we'd be in the same grade, this will be interesting.
~~Time skip The Next Day~~
I woke up early as usual and started my day, I prepared myself for the walk to school, made breakfast for Soma, and got ingredients for the dorm test. I left early leaving Soma a note that said I'd walked to school already, I took my supplies and walked out the door, looking back at the restaurant that I'd called home for a while. I walked up the hill and stopped outside the building, it was such a big building, and I felt like I was going to be made fun of there, I quickly went to find my dorm house, The Polar Star Dormitory. I walk to the door and knock gently on the door, It opens with a creak and I get a little creeped out. At the door stands an old lady who introduces herself as Dorm Mother Fumio. "Aren't you a bit young for Totsuki?" she asks, I nod my head yes, and say "no" at the same time, she looks at me like I'm confusing. "I was told I could attend here by the headmaster himself," I state matter-of-factly.
She continues to stare at me dumbstruck, "May I take the test, please?" I ask, she reluctantly nods her head yes and shows me to the kitchen. It was a beautiful kitchen, newer than the building itself looks, I was mesmerized by its beauty I almost missed what the dorm mother was saying about the test. "Make a dish that can satisfy my taste buds and you can have a room," she said, I nodded in confirmation. I got out the ingredients I brought and racked through my memory for a good recipe. I got it, I'll make Rosemary Chicken Noodle Soup.
I quickly pull out some chicken and noodles from my icebox.
I dice the chicken into bite-sized chunks, easy to eat, then cook them. Once the chicken was done I put it to the side.
Dug into my icebox some more and pulled out some other ingredients.
I heat 2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil in a large stockpot over medium-high heat. I add 1 small white onion, peeled and diced, and saute it for 4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Then add 2 medium carrots, peeled and diced, and 2 stalks of celery, trimmed and diced, and saute for another 4 minutes until the carrots are softened a bit.
I then add 3 cloves of minced garlic and saute for an additional 2 minutes.
I add 8 cups of chicken stock and stir until combined. Gently stir in 3 stalks of rosemary in the soup, then continue cooking until the soup reaches a simmer.
I reduce heat to medium and simmer for 5 more minutes until the broth has my desired level of rosemary flavor.
Once the broth is ready, I remove the rosemary and stir in the egg noodles and chicken. I continue cooking the soup for roughly 9 more minutes until the egg noodles are al dente.
I season the soup with salt and pepper to taste.
I scooped some into a bowl and then garnished it with extra black pepper and fresh parsley, I set it in front of Fumio. "Bon Appetit, this particular dish originated from China, as well as having a nostalgic charm to it, Rosemary Chicken Noodle Soup is the dish I made for you today," I say and start to clean up the kitchen area I used. "Rosemary is a rich source of anti-inflammatory compounds, which are thought to help boost the immune system and improve blood circulation," I continue, as I wash the rest of the dishes, putting the rest of the ingredients into their correct places. Fumio carefully takes a spoonful into her mouth, once the soup hits her tongue she lets out a little moan and instantly looks a little younger. "This soup is probably the most exquisite soup I've had in ages, you must share the recipe with me," she says holding one hand to her cheek, "thank you, Miss Fumio," I say. "I take it that's a yes then?" I ask with curiosity, "Oh yes dear, I'll get you your room key," Fumio says as she steps out of the kitchen.
She returns shortly with a room key. "Your room number is 305." She says as she hands me the key. I take the key and thank her. I start to walk to my room, the Dorm is quite empty this early, people are probably not here yet or in classes.
I find my room pretty quickly, I fear that Soma might get lost or forget his things. What if he forgets that the dorm has a test? What if he doesn't get into the school?
I start to panic, he's like my brother what if he doesn't make it? Will I be attending school without him?
No, he's smart and skilled enough to pass the exam. I calmed down. I decide that just standing around my dorm room isn't going to help me at all, so I decide to take a walk. I exit my room locking it, I look at my watch, it's only 9 a.m. People are definitely still in class. I find the main entrance again and walk into the main building, where I think most of the classes are held. I walk around for a while until suddenly someone is standing in front of me. I stop walking and look up at him, considering I'm only 4' 3".
He's rather short for being if I had to guess, about 18. He has a lean build. He has slanted, wide brown eyes and wild, spiky dark brown hair that runs down to his nape and juts in every direction. His bangs, which reach down to his cheeks, are blond. He has tresses that rest on his left ear, embellished with three bobby pins, fastened in a "Z" pattern, the rest of his hair which is also unkempt, as well as the tress on the right side of his face that goes past his face, is dark in color, he sports a round, stud earring in each ear.
"Hello," I say to him. He looks around for a minute then down at me, "Well hi there, are you lost little one?" He says as he crouches down to my level. I smile at him "Nuh-uh" I shake my head no, "I go to school here now," I tell him and watch his face contort into one of shock.
"You? Go here?" He looks on in confusion, "no way" he says as he crosses his arms to form an 'X'. I continue to smile up at him.
"I just got accepted to move up here recently by the headmaster himself," I say to him.
