"No way..." I gasp, as Ashlyn continues to explain a story about her now ex-boyfriend. We're sitting in a small café near my house, holding two iced-coffees. There's barely anyone around us, only an elderly couple having late lunch. Ashlyn had dyed her hair a dark brown and it looked amazing on her.
"Then he was like telling me that I was a horrible girlfriend because apparently we had agreed on an open-relationship? Which actually never happened. So...yeah." She shrugs. "I was slowly getting tired of him anyway, it worked out. I'm glad I can go out again without having to worry about other men looking at me, even while having this open-relationship, as he called it." She says.
"He's such a dick. So he hooked up with other women and told you that you had an open relationship but when other men looked at you he made you feel guilty?" I ask, keeping both hands around the coffee.
"Exactly." She nods.
"Wow..." I scoff.
"I know right. All men are dicks." She rolls her eyes.
"Well," I squeak, tilting my head to the side. Her eyes light up.
"Spill." She says, a grin plastering across her face.
"So I met this guy..." I start.
"Mhm??" She hums encouragingly.
"It was accidental, though. I gave him an allergic reaction."
"He's allergic to you?" She chuckles.
"No, no. I gave him something he was allergic to, by accident. Then I drove him to his office and stabbed him with an epi-pen." I press my lips together.
"True love." She sighs dramatically.
"No! No! I don't like him that way. Neither does he. Damn, Ash, i've known him for two days." I laugh.
"Okay, fine, fine. What's he like?" She asks, leaning her head on her palm with her elbow on the table.
"Uhm...his name's Ezra, he's 24 and he thinks he was a beaver in a past life." A smile creeps its way to my lips. "He's shy...sort of. He has a really nice apartment-"
"You were in his apartment!?! Oh my god! You hooked up!?" She whisper-shouts.
"He wishes," I scoff, probably not true. "I was there to watch a horror movie last night." She wiggles her eyebrows at me.
"Is he hot?" He asks.
"I have a picture..." I unlock my phone and show her the picture of Ezra smiling.
"I'll take that as a yes. Tattoos? Wow, where can I get myself one of those." She murmurs, continue to ogle the image.
"eBay." I shrug.
I put my phone back and smile. The waiter comes around with the check and puts it on our table. I notice that he stares at Ashlyn a bit more than necessary.
"Thank you." She smiles up sweetly at him. She could have any man on his knees with the snap of a finger.
"Uhm...yeah." He draws out.
"I'm Ashlyn," She says.
"Aidan." He responds.
I roll my eyes as Ashlyn and the waiter, Aidan, start talking, pulling out my phone and going through random contacts until I find Ezra.
me: hola
I wait for him to reply and, soon enough, he does.
