Chapter 3
The next day, I put my plan into action.
"Hey, Caleb," I said, pausing by his locker to look at him for a minute, then walking on by. I smirked a little at the frown that crossed his face. It was pretty cute. Woah- cute? Where had that come from?
"Hey, Zara," a voice purred in my ear during class. I turned around, and sure enough, the devil himself was sitting behind me. How come I hadn't noticed him before?
Forcing a cheery smile, I exclaimed "Hi again, Caleb! It's really nice to see you!" He looked a little annoyed at the loudness of my voice, but quickly his expression morphed into a smirk.
"I know what you're doing, Quinn," he whispered, leaning forward in his chair and stretching across the desk. This was a first for me. People never called my by my last name, it was always Zara to them.
Trying my hardest I put on an innocent expression. "And what would that be, Evans?" I retorted. "You're going to start a little war with me, aren't you? Try to seduce me, then leave me hanging. Humiliate me in front of the whole school. Things like that. Don't worry, I have you all figured out," he whispered in a husky tone.
I think I've fallen in love with his voice. Imagine him talking to me like that when we're- WOAH THERE! Stop! Back to the matter at hand.
I gaped at him. How? He was completely right. I was going to humiliate him. How had he figured that out? I never told anyone, did I? No, I didn't. I'm sure I didn't. Did I?
"You're too easy to read, Quinn," he smirked. I glared a him. "I prefer Zara, thanks," I snapped. "Oooh, touched a nerve did I?"
"Just shut up, Evans"
"I prefer Caleb, thanks," he retorted, copying me. I huffed, turning back around in my chair. Was he right? Was I too easy to read? I let out a long breath, trying to get my mind off him.
I needed to calm down, or else I would end up doing something I'd regret, like slapping him. And he looked pretty strong. And pretty darn scary. Not to mention that he was way taller than me. Maybe slapping him wouldn't be a good idea. But it sure would feel good.
"Come on, Zarabee, class is over," his voice whispered in my ear. I gaped at him. "Zarabee?" I asked, annoyed. "The best I could come up with in the heat of the moment," he shrugged, walking off.
At lunch, I couldn't help but look over at where he sat, on his own. He looked like he needed a bit of cheering up, I thought mischievously. Picking up my chocolate muffin, I made my way over to his table.
"Hey, Caleb, look up a sec," I called. As expected, he looked up. I took the opportunity to smash the muffin into his face, not giving him any time to react. The entire cafeteria went completely silent.
Caleb peeled the muffin off his face. I was shocked to see that he was grinning. "Good one, Zarabee," he proclaimed, standing up. I gulped.
Oh no. This was not going to be good. "But this will be even better," he whispered, coming closer. Before I could spin on my heel and run away, I felt a cold, lumpy liquid on my long hair and dripping down my back. I stared up at him in shock. Of course, he was smirking. He had just dumped soup on my head!
"This is war," I whispered, my voice deadly serious. I lifted his apple pie and planted it on top of his head, making sure to rub it in. He shuddered.
"You're gonna pay for that," he stated. I started to run, making it to the other side of the cafeteria before I felt an arm catch my waist. Oh no. He spun me round, my face coming into contact with another chocolate muffin. "Got ya," he whispered. Quickly, I grabbed a carton of apple juice off a nearby table and poured it on his head. He shivered with the cold liquid coming into contact with his skin.
Suddenly, I became aware of the silence around us. I looked away from Caleb, my eyes scanning the shocked and amused faces of the pupils. My gaze landed on the 'popular' table, scanning over my friends' disapproving looks. "People are staring," I whispered to Caleb. "So?" He replied.
"What are you lot looking at?" I shouted. Immediately, they snapped out of the trances they had been in and some guy yelled "Food fight!", to which everyone responded. Food was flying everywhere, not being aimed at anyone in particular.
Caleb and I just sat there, watching everyone. "Well this is fun," his voice breathed in my ear. I turned to face him, shocked at how close together we were sitting. "Yeah, that was. It was my idea, though," I replied. "Smart one, now you'll get the blame, Zarabee," he chuckled.
Oops.

Another chapter up! How's Caleb working out for y'all? I just had to include a food fight scene!
It may be going really slow at the minute, but bear with! And two updates in one day, aren't you lucky? Yes, you are. Very lucky indeed.
Votes and/or comments would be very much appreciated.
