He was friends with Potter and Black, but he was so different from them.
He was sweet, nerdy, quiet and reserved. Remus always had an eye for one girl, but he'd never admit it. Who was he compared to her? Bold and out going, radiating where ever she was. A grade below him yet so intelligent and advanced they shared classes. He felt like a shadow near all the people he was closest to. He was just James and Sirius' friend Choosing to love her in secret, being her friend was close enough for him. He often told himself it's as close as he could safely get anyway, how could he have any sort of relationship?

I strode confidently down the hall to my class.
Today's the day I'll tell him. It can't be that hard, if he doesn't like me back so be it! Remus wouldn't stop being my friend over such a trivial thing.
Giving myself a small pep-talk as I wove through the filing seats taking my own. I rehearsed in my head what I would say over and over. That did not stop my heart from taking flight as he tailed Potter into the room, Black at his side. He took his normal seat next to me as the other two sat a row behind. He was looking back at them, still laughing at whatever they had been discussing. When he turned to his own desk, I realized I should take my shot before they could gain his attention again.

"Hey Remus, mind a quick chat?" I asked swirling my quill nervously. He turned facing me, smile still plastered to his face, cheeks red from what I could only guess was the jokes Sirius had been making.
He truly was gorgeous.

"Yes (y/n)?" He asked attentively. Suddenly all my built confidence melted away as my breath failed me. Looking into his warm brown eyes, still bright from laughter was much harder than when I just imagined them. As I laughed nervously he tilted his head, I had to look down at the table. Breaking from his gaze to get my thoughts in order and hopefully form a response.
"I-" He hummed encouraging me to continue, I swallowed "I was just wondering if you understood last nights assignment? The essay prompt for history of magic?" I couldn't bring my eyes to his again. Afraid he'd see the lie in them Once I finally gained the courage to look up I see his smile had softened from the excited grin. It almost seemed to faulter as he nodded.

"I could help you if you need. After dinner in the common room?" He replied all to sweetly, my heart squeezed.

"Yeah sounds great." he looked back behind him as Sirius called for his attention and I put my forehead against the cool desk.
Tonight. I told myself, now determined. I'm telling him tonight or my last name isn't Snape.

Before I could pout for too long, the teacher called everybody's attention to get started on the lesson. The classes with Remus always flew by. He always made me laugh with his witty remarks. He always blushed after making a joke, as if shocking himself. Like he wasn't used to eyes being on him. Before I knew it, we were gathering our things to go to dinner. He gave me one last look, he looked as if he would say something but Sirius stepped between us wrapping his arm around him. Sirius shot me a smile and a wink. "Gonna have to steal him now (y/n)." I couldn't help my eye roll. The damn flirt, but I couldn't help appreciated it. Sirius was one of the few who understood, breaking the family line of Slytherins. Becoming an outcast within your own home. It wasn't a secret they didn't get along with my older bother Severus, so any sort of olive branch was nice.

I was so lost in thought I hadn't heard Lily approach me. "Hello? (y/n)?" She asked finally breaking through my thoughts. I had made it to the great hall in a daze. I turned to her as we sat.

"Oh Lily I can't do it." She shook her head already knowing where I was going. "It's already a month into the school year (y/n), his seventh year. You're running out of time." I snorted, "Thanks for the pep talk." I said sarcastically. But it did help put things in perspective. I could either spend the year pining over the boy, or I could spend the year walking down the halls hand in hand with him. Openly kissing the scars on the bridge of his nose and cheek bone. Or hiding from him behind statues and sitting away from him in the back of classes when he rejects you.
