When Jack and Claire hadn't returned that night Castiel became worried. He knew that they were out looking for a cure, but he was feeling a lot slower and he knew he didn't have long. This had happened at an extremely low pace the first time he lost his grace that he hardly noticed it. But now it was happening a lot faster and if his children didn't come back, he would travel the world with his dying breath to find them.
"Cass are you feeling sick again?" Marina asked. She had been preoccupied with packing supplies for them and playing with her cat soon after.
"I am worried about them, Marina what if something happened to them?" Castiel asked. Marina was about to say something to her but before she could his phone rang.
"Really now?" Marina grumbled. Castiel was also annoyed and apologized before answering. He didn't even bother to check the caller id since he was silently hoping that one of his children was calling.
"Hello," Castiel said."Hello Clarence," Meg answered. "I gave you my number and you didn't call." Castiel's face fell and he looked over at Marina.
"What do you want?" Castiel asked.
"Aww don't be like that, I have someone here who wants to talk to you," Meg responded. "Claire say hi to daddy."
"Cass help me please," Claire cried out on the other line. "She almost killed Jack and now she wants to kill me." Castiel became furious and almost crushed the cellphone."First you adopt a human child and a halfling then you want to mate with a human?" Meg asked taking the phone back. "I took the nephilim's grace so he's not going to last much longer, come meet me alone in the ward or they both die."
"Meg if you hurt them I swear..." Castiel began but Meg cut him off.
"No harm will come to them as long as you come back to me," Meg responded. "I'll be waiting for you my angel." Meg hung up and Castiel threw his phone in anger.First Meg takes his grace and now his children? Want more did this demon want from him? Marina was worried that this whole thing was a trap and she tried to convince him to not go.
"Marina I have to go there are my children, and I won't let Meg kill them." Castiel responded. He coughed briefly which was a horrible sign but he ignored it and grabbed his angel blade.
"I'm just saying that you shouldn't go alone, this could be a trap," Marina cautioned. "Let me come with you.""No I can't let you come when I don't have my grace, you could end up dying so you need to stay here." Castiel responded. Since he became human, he finally understood what love felt like, and he couldn't have it which made him sad. But this way if he came back as an angel or didn't come back at all, Marina would be safe from him. She could find some mortal man to marry, one that could actually be with her and give her kids. Even as an angel Castiel couldn't do either of those things.
"You don't care if its trap do you," Marina quickly realized. " I can't let you do this Cass, without your grace you won't stand a chance." She thought about begging for him to stay, but she didn't since she had to keep their relationship platonic. Marina knew she never should have kissed him or went on that date with him. Neither of them had brought it up since Marina was more focused on helping Cass, and the former angel was focused on his children and becoming human.
"I can't just leave them," Castiel responded and turned to look at her. "Once I do save them, everything will change," he continued. "There isn't going to be easy for you to hear but you must, if I don't survive this you have to look after them.""Cass don't talk that way," Marina responded sternly. "If you want to save them then you have to live, because they need you," she continued. "Our friends need you, and I need you."
"Your feelings of attraction and attachment are appreciated," Castiel responded. Marina gasped at his words and wondered how he had figured that out. "I can see the confusion on your face but I should say that I can read your mind."
"Then you know everything?" Marina asked. She wasn't sure how to react knowing that Castiel had known about the dream she had of marrying him, having a family and being together forever."Yes I saw it all every time we talked but I also saw your fears, so I never said anything," Castiel explained. "I didn't ever understand how you humans loved each other but I felt the same way, and I still do."
"But there's a but coming." Marina responded trying to hold back tears. If he felt the same way she did, either he was going to leave her because he couldn't stay or he would suggest keeping their relationship a secret.
"Marina words will never cover what you mean to me," Castiel admitted making her blush. "But look at yourself and look at me..."Marina cut him off by grabbing his hand and getting closer.
"I know what you're going to say, but I don't care if you're an angel I still love you," she told him. "I know I'm not supposed to but I can't help it," she continued. "But Cass if you don't get your grace back you'll die, and I won't let you."
"Everything dies Marina I want to to die when you die, I'm not celestial being right now I'm human and I love you," Castiel finally admitted. Marina was shocked and couldn't even find the words to respond. "But I know that I can't have you, so all I can do is hope you be happy."Marina still couldn't say anything all she could do was stare at him wondering if he would continue.
"Cass..." She began but he held his hand up.
"Don't say anything just stay here where I know you'll be safe." Castiel told her. He gave her a kiss as a way to say just in case before he left. She loved it though and made him promise that he would be okay. Once he was gone Marina felt very alone as her only companion was her cat.
"Do you think he'll be okay?" She asked. The cat meowed at her hoping to cheer her up, she smiled and scratched her head. "Thanks patches I needed that."Her moment with her pet didn't last long as she heard the door open. Confused she got up from the couch to see who came in but became concerned when she saw it was Claire and Jack. "Wait how did you two get out?" She asked.
"What do you mean?" Claire asked. "We were just looking for a spell to help Cass."
"Oh no!' Marina exclaimed. "This isn't happening!" She began tearing up the room trying to find a way to warn Castiel.
"Marina what's wrong?" Jack asked.
"Castiel is walking into a trap he just left to go save you!" Marina responded.
