Day 1
Isabella woke up to the sound of a thunderclap. Her head turned slightly to the side and through the window she saw the silver sky crying, streaks of blinding white forming every now and then. Another flash of lightning illuminated the clock sitting on her table.
8:18 am.
The room was dark, the only light provided by the soft glow of her clock and the occasional flashes from outside. Trixie was still curled up on the end of her bed, purring softly. With every thud the room shook softly, little tremors racing up the legs of the bed and made her shiver in the cold air.
Yawning, Isabella gently nudged Trixie off her feet and climbed out of bed. She padded to the bathroom, flinching as another thunderclap shook the building. Her tired eyes stared back at her in the mirror, a slight red tinge to them and purple streaks lying under her eyelashes. Izzy sighed, turning on the tap and splashing more water on her face. She remembered something.
"Ah, why now. Not the best time." She murmured to herself as pictures of a different day popped into her mind, the weather the same awful grey. It was so cliché, when she thought about it- the rain, the internal turbulence, the loneliness. Still, the words echoed in her head.
"You were just a careless mistake. Now shut up and leave us alone."
Isabella was a few months old when her parents put her up for adoption. A new-born, sent to an orphanage with only cold faces to raise her, to teach her how to speak, with only moping children to keep her company. There was one person she grew attached to, her elder sister of sorts: Hwang Jiwoo, who was adopted the week after befriending Isabella.
It was a lonely childhood until Seokjin's mother showed up. Isabella was eight at the time, and there was another girl there with her name: Isabella Hills, who was the father's choice. The names were mixed up, but the parents and family eventually decided they would rather adopt her instead.
Izzy didn't know what it was like to have parents who would care about her, brothers who would play with her and a mother who would sit with her, look out over the skyline of Seoul and read Puff The Magic Dragon.
Those few years were the best of her life, until she turned 12. Isabella's parents had discovered the identity of her biological parents through the orphanage, and asked if she wanted to try and find them. Excited for the chance to meet more people, the people who created her, Izzy jumped at the opportunity and spent years looking for them.
Two years later, she found them. And Jin found her, broken and crying on their doorstep. It turns out, her 'father' was an alcoholic and her mother never meant to get pregnant. They were careless, and thus had her. A mistake.
But that was okay. She was fine, she learned to heal around that with the support of her family.
Fast forward two years, her father died, her brothers moved out, one became part of the most famous Kpop group of the century, and she went alone to Australia to study medicine. Another two years, her mother was dead, she graduated university and was left to live with seven single boys around her age, although she was at the age to live on her own. She only saw her brothers occasionally, and had just isolated herself from the new friends she'd made.
To make matters worse, Isabella had fallen for a boy, who also happened to be a Kpop idol.
Everything was a mistake.
It was a mistake that she was born, it was a mistake that she was adopted by the Kims, it was a mistake that she ended up with Enhypen. Everything about her was a mistake, and the knowledge tore her to pieces from the inside out.
The lightning flashed again, and Isabella flinched. Her reflection looked hollow in the dim lighting, she looked broken. Maybe that's because, at least in her point of view, she was. Something inside her crumbled at that thought, and she fell to the tiles and curled up.
She stayed like that for a few seconds, the rain harshly pounding on the walls around her, thunder shouting her parent's words back at her, the cold surrounding her like it did that night. An icy blanket that froze her muscles and weighed her down, without Jin there to save her this time.
A soft purr sounded, and Izzy felt something warm on her stomach. It wiggled around for a second before settling down next to her, fur gently tickling her bare arm. Trixie seemed to blink at her now open eyes as if to say Come on, I'm cold. Isabella couldn't resist her tantalizing viridescent eyes. She let out a bitter chuckle; turns out Jin would still find a way to comfort her even if he wasn't there in person.
Scooping the cat up, she walked back onto the bed. Trixie writhed around in Izzy's arms for a second before realising the bed was warmer and lying down.
A knock sounded at the door.
Izzy knew she had to ignore it, but it didn't make the pain any less.
The knock sounded again. She had to convince herself this was the right thing to do.
Once more, someone knocked on the door and she ignored it.
"Bella-?"
Oh no, it was Jake. It had to be him, why not Sunoo or Jay, she wasn't as close with them and it would've been easier. The universe just had to throw Jake at her door when she couldn't open it.
She stayed silent.
"Are you okay?"
She didn't speak.
"Sorry, If I'm bothering you I'll leave..." Izzy choked back a sob, one hand clutching her throat and the other fisted in her shirt above her heart. Why did it have to hurt so goddamn much?
It almost seemed dejected, the way he seemed to hesitate for a second hoping for an answer, before miserable footsteps made their way from her door. Isabella waited until he was definitely gone before gasping, her hands loosening from their hold and flying to her head. She didn't hear the other knocks on the door, or Niki's calls over her quiet sobs.
She was all in now, completely invested in both Jake and this plan of hers. Maybe all of this was just as much of a mistake as she was, but the boy she'd just turned from her door was the only one who made her feel like it wasn't. That maybe it wasn't a mistake, but fate.
Isabella's head rose to the bedside table, opening the second draw. She pulled out a notebook and a pen, uncapping it and chewing on the lid. After hesitating for a second, she tainted the white paper with the pitch black ink.
Izzy wanted to write something to Jake, a love letter of sorts that he would never see. But she could never write it out in the form of a diary entry or a letter, nothing simple like that. So she turned to something that Jake loved.
She started writing a song, the lyrics for the chorus flowing through her mind faster than she could write.
The shivers running down my spine
leave chaos in their wake
I'm shot through the heart, a dead straight line
You only took a single take
When hands meet yours and yours meet mine
Mind blank, just your name Jake.
When we run away, three-fourths past nine
I'm never a mistake
Fun Fact, I wrote that lil thing at 3am and it's absolutely terrible so pay no attention to that. Also;
