Jake

The rosy sky was streaked with vermillion, coral clouds lined with a brilliant gold. It seemed as if a benign dragon had breathed a kaleidoscopic of beauty across the city to greet the night, it's back the city skyline and it's wings the vibrant greenery. The blurring reflection in the river was distorted, colours swirling and changing in the subtle movement of the water. Birds rested lazily on the surface and every few seconds the faintest hint of a fish's shadow passed underneath.

Isabella strolled along the footpath, admiring the view. She had the hoodie tight around her to block the cold breezes that blew around once in a while, disrupting the water. It was peaceful, it was quiet. A different quiet from the silence in her room, a quiet that hummed with the song of birds and the chatter of insects. A quiet that assured her that she was surrounded by life, that brought a kind of tranquillity that could only be achieved through connection with nature.

A few bicycles zoomed past her, ruffling her hair and reminding her of the more human surroundings that threatened to disturb the etherealness that entranced her. Bella's head turned slightly catching sight of familiar dark hair walking a distance behind her, warm brown eyes widening at being caught. Quickly, she tugged the hoodie even tighter around her and tried to blend in, though with the few people and light grey of the hoodie she wasn't successful.

Still, Isabella speed-walked down the pathway in the hopes of shaking the boy off her tail. For a split second of relief she glanced back without spotting him, before a hand rested on her shoulder. She jumped, reaching for the stick Jungwon had advised her to bring along before realising it was just Jake.

It was Jake.

Lightly, she hit him with the stick and tried to run away, but like that morning, he grabbed her and pulled her back into a hug.

"You've been avoiding me again. Jay told me you said it wasn't my fault but I'm still sorry. Did you like the flowers?" Bella shivered, his warm breath puffing over her ear. A tingly feeling sprinted up her spine to rest near her heart and she hesitantly returned the hug.

"I'm sorry. He's right, it's not your fault at all, and yes the flowers were beautiful. Thank you." She let her head rest on his shoulder. The familiar scent of vanilla washed over her and her muscles unconsciously relaxed. "I know what the flowers mean, I'm sorry you felt the need to apologise because that situation was entirely my fault, Jake, I really li-" She stopped herself, pulling back and covering her mouth with her hand. Jake looked at her, aiming for comfort but bringing the opposite.

He sighed and grabbed the hand not on her mouth, leading her to the slight hill overlooking the river.

"I really was worried when you didn't come down that morning. That day, I had sat down and had a chat with Sunghoon, Sunoo and Jay before you got home and you disappearing took my... pride down a notch. I treasured those little moments we had, and I still do. But I need to know you won't leave me again after I say this." Through his words he wouldn't meet her eyes, but after he stopped their gazes locked. Matching shades of cocoa stared into the other before he resumed.

"I know you're scared of me leaving, and I don't know what I can do to assure you I won't. But I can say this; I will never, ever leave you Bella. No matter what happens, between us or not I will not leave your side if you'll have me." His hand still hadn't let go of hers, and she could feel their legs brushing against each other. "But I had a realisation. We're close, and I know that but I still don't know that much about you. I know your family situation with Jin sunbaenim and your parents but I don't know why you two look so different. I don't know what school you went to, your dream or any of that. And I should if I want to be closer to you."

Jake went back to staring off across the lake, the only indication he knew Bella was there was the slightly tighter grip on her hand and the little shift as he pressed their legs closer together. She followed his gaze, watching a bird dip onto the surface of the water and fly back up. They sat there in silence for a few minutes before Isabella broke it.

"I studied medicine in Australia for three years. I was about to start my fourth, then do my intern year but then my mother..." Jake's head turned to face her, and now it was her turn to avoid his gaze, watching the ripples from where that bird disturbed the water drift outwards.

"I'm adopted. My biological parents gave me away at birth and when I found them again they made it very clear they wanted nothing to do with me. I like writing songs and listening to music, I used to be part of a fencing course at school and duxed a subject or two each year. My favourite core subject was science, but I did more work for maths. I'm an Engene as of last month when I started living with you guys, and you're my bias. My favourite scent is vanilla, Seokjin gave me a cat for my birthday which was just over a month ago, and her name is Trixie. I want to be a surgeon. You guys, TXT and BTS are my only friends." Finally, she glanced over to Jake, his surprised expression melting her heart until her insides felt less stable than a leaning tower of jelly.

"No way. I'm Australian! Kinda." Jake grinned at her. "I have a puppy called Layla. I wonder if she and Trixie would get along? I hope so. I was top of my maths class and have an interest in physics. Maybe we could do some maths comp together sometime- Oh! I used to play soccer and violin. I'm in love with a girl called Isabella."

At the last words Bella's head whipped around to find Jake's eyes already on her. His eyes widened for a second before he seemed to accept that his feelings were in the open and they softened.

"I-I me too, I mean, you- you're so I-"

Before Isabella could continue her lips were stopped. There was something on them, something softer than anything she had ever know. Softer than the fleeting Seoul snow, more exhilarating than the first bite of cotton candy, the intoxicating scent of vanilla curling around her and leaving her floating weightlessly above the clouds, frozen for a split second in this moment.

When she realised they were Jake's lips, she melted. The kiss was sweet, so undemandingly sweet. It was so simple, so many words they didn't need to say and so many emotions they couldn't voice flooding through each other's minds as they felt the ceaseless love the other held for them.

It was if their souls finally saw each other and kind of went; "Oh. There you are, I've been looking for you."

It was a few seconds before they parted, though it felt way too short a time. Neither of their eyes opened for a heartbeat before Bella's eyelashes blinked open at the same time as Jake's.

His voice was a hoarse whisper. "I've been wanting to do that. Are you okay?" Isabella's gaze flicked from his gorgeous sepia eyes back to his lips, and once again she was struck by the captivating resplendence that was Sim Jake. Her eyes didn't move from his lips, slightly red and parted as she breathed out a quiet yes and kissed him.

The reflection of glowing stars against the fading colours of the sunset in the Han river rippled outwards, Bella and Jake not caring about anything else in the world. If either of them saw the small flash from behind the nearby trees the word Dispatch would never have crossed their minds, or if they heard the mad scrambling after the photographer realised the flash was still on they didn't care.

To Bella, in that moment her entire universe was the small square metre where she and Jake were pressed together, her hand tangled in his hair and his arms pulling her close, the palm of his hand gently tilting her face up to him.

It was just her and Jake.

Mhm, mhm, mhm, you may now applaud.

JK (That was the first real kiss scene I ever wrote, how was it😭)
