18: New Beginnings
The crew of the 118 were not expecting something like this, not at all. They walked into the plastic surgeon's office with bright yellow hazmat suits on the six of them all looking around.
" What are we thinking? Gas leak?" Chim murmur as they look around the ghostly quiet office. A phone rang in the distance.
" Could be some pathogen. The world's a crazy place these days." Hen speaks up from Next to Delia, the device in Bobby's hand beeps.
"Negative for combustibles as of now. Masks stay on for the duration." Bobby orders as everyone nods, taking a few steps forward.
"Where is everyone? It's too quiet." Buck says as they all walk down a hallway they make it to the reception desk.
"Got one over here." Eddie kneels next to the nurse on the ground. "She's got a pulse." He pulls out a pen light opening her closed eyes. " Pupillary response... normal."
" Help! Please help! Please help me." The rest of the crew leave Eddie running down the hall to where the yells are being heard, they walk into a small operating room seeing a woman who is partially cut open on the table with an oxygen tube under her nose.
"Oh, help me. They're crushing me." She points to the surgeon laying on top of her.
"Okay, Buck, give me a hand over here. Chimney, you check on her." Bobby points to the nurse unconscious on the floor behind them.
"Wha-Wha-What's wrong?"
"Stop, stop, stop! Don't touch your face." She begins feeling her face and neck where the skin was cut and laid down on her neck. " Don't touch your face."
"What the...?" She looks at her hands seeing blood.
" Ma'am, it just looks like the staff here just wasn't 100% done before they lost consciousness." Hen assures her as Buck and Bobby move the men off her. Delia kneels checking them out. " You're still under the effects of the general anesthesia, which is good. Okay, we're gonna keep you nice and numb. But I'm gonna need to put a cold compress on your face, okay?"
" Is there a stitch loose?" The woman points to her face
"Look, you're probably gonna feel cold, but you're not gonna feel any pain. We've got to preserve as much tissue as possible when we travel you to a hospital." Bobby explains as the woman looks at them confused.
" Tissue?" she sets up the skin on her forehead falling into her eyes. "Oh, my face is off! My face is off!"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa."
