"It's going straight to voicemail."

"Then maybe you should just suck it up and go to work."

I threw my duvet over my head and groaned as Kris shook the bed, not letting me get away with a third week off from my work.

Okay, so living the dream of working at the cinema and having a normal life again is a blow. If only I could pick and choose when I wanted to be in the real world or not - that would be insane.

It is insane.

I can't stay fixated on living a life that is totally out of my reach. And besides, as much as I miss hanging out with those guys it wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

But I'm literally depressed now so...

"Kristen I just wanna fucking quit everything." I cried and she let out a loud huff.

"You're so fucking dramatic." She finally ripped the duvet off and I curled myself up into a ball to avoid looking at her.

She definitely had the hands-on-hips-mum-that's-disappointed-in-you-stance going on and I didn't want to look.

"Mac, pull yourself together." Kristen grabbed me by the ear and I slapped her hand away with an "ow".

Kristen really is going full on Mum mode.

"I'm fine. I just need a break." I mumbled, covering my head with my arms.

"You had a break 3 weeks ago when we went to Sydney. It's over." She said harshly.

I'd ran out of reasons as to what was wrong with me, and my boss was getting more and more pissed. Some of my excuses consisted of: chronic food poisoning, insane migraines, twisted ankle, "my car is dead and I'm stuck in the McDonalds drive thru. It's literally on fire, Marian. No I don't want you to come get me, I'm depressed because my car's on fire."

How she fell for the last one I'll never know.

Anyway, I'd weaseled out of going to work for three weeks and honestly I think I deserve a round of applause because I still managed to keep my job after all that.

My phone vibrated and I snatched it up quickly, praying that my excuse with my car was gonna continue to hold up.

"She replied," I said, sitting up as Kristen rolled her eyes;

"Mackenzie,
Check your emails.
I can't have you on my team anymore due to poor performance from your end, so I have decided to terminate your employment contract with us.
This along with the fact that you think I'm going to keep falling for your porkies - it's just not good enough.
All the best for the future,
Marian."

I grinned up at Kristen, before processing what I'd just read out and my phone fell from my hands, my hands clapping over my mouth.

The strength it took to stop Kristen from saying 'now look what you've done' must have been astounding. I was in fucking hysterics.

"WHY?" I shrieked, clawing at the mattress like an animal, "I was the best worker they had for fucks sake."

"Mac... you'd literally sit in the cinema and watch the movies while the others would be stocking up cups and folding up popcorn boxes." Kristen raised her eyebrows and scoffed.

"How are you supposed to recommend movies if you haven't seen them?" I snapped back, grabbing a pillow and hugging it to my chest.

While I thrashed around like a child, Kristen started up the computer on my desk and loaded into my emails, clicking around trying to find the termination letter.
