Suzume
"Melody..."
I know that voice...
"Melody."
Whose voice is that?
"You need to wake up."
What?
"WAKE UP!"I woke up in a dark room that smelled of old books,
"Where am I?"
The world was spinning, and I couldn't quite pinpoint where I was.
I took my medication last night didn't I?
"Where are you?"
No response...
Why won't they respond?
I stood up slowly reaching for a wall, any wall, guiding myself to a possible light switch.
Why is this room so familiar?
I flipped the first switch I found, the room brightening. I winced slightly, and stood there waiting for my surroundings to come back to me.
Oh, this is my room.
I checked the clock, ten o'clock.
"Wait a minute, wasn't something supposed to be happening today?"
I sat down, grabbing my notebook flipping to the page I had left off last.
Wait.
I stood back up and checked up on my calendar, Sunday. It was circled in red.
"OH NO, I HAVE TO GO TO THE ACADEMY TODAY!"
I quickly scooped the last of my things into a shoulder bag and backpack, popping a breath mint into my mouth and putting up my hair into a pretty messy ponytail.
That won't really matter considering I'll be flying to the Sky Lines in order to catch my flight train.
I quickly slid down the railing beyond my bedroom, directing me into the small living room, littered with beer cans and garbage.
At least my dad is at work right now so I don't have to worry about him lecturing me again.
I quickly snatched my phone off the coffee table and ran out the front door, the door locking on its own. I checked my phone, ten thirty.
"I have about eight minutes before my flight train leaves."
I spread my wings, loud whistling noises coming from them, and with that I launched into the sky, catching the closest air current. The smell of pollution having a death grip on my lungs, the usual sounds of screaming, explosions, and sirens wailing in the background as I flew at a quicker pace than what was my comfort zone. I swerved easily around people, although I got the occasional glare or even a good insult thrown my way as I flew past.
But I'm used to that.Run.
I stopped suddenly, a shiver running through my entire body, I turned in frantic circles for the source of the voice. No one. I shivered again and continued flying.
Too late.
The voice continued to wail in my head, it almost hurt to listen to. I continued to ignore it.
Watch out.
Slightly distracted by the voice I nearly flew into another person, crashing into a drone as I barely dodged them.
"Oh shit are you okay?!"
I was now on the ground, my ribs hurt but otherwise I was fine. I smiled at the boy that landed beside me, looking slightly concerned,
"I'm alright I've had worse!"
He frowned at me, stretching his large black wings,
"Oh, you sure?"
I nodded, and stretched my own wings, a slight pain throbbing throughout my torso,
"Where are you off to?"
He asked me giving a slight smile.
"Sky Lines, I have to catch the flight train that's heading to the Academy!"
I responded quickly as I shot into the sky once more, he followed quickly behind,
"Cool, I'm heading to the same destination, but we better hurry I'm pretty sure it's leaving in four minutes."
I nodded and without further conversation we caught the wind current and flew with haste. I was slightly behind him since my torso felt like it was on fire with every wing beat.
How odd. I don't recognize him, usually I have a knack for remembering faces, he must be new.
I looked over at him again, he glanced back and smiled. I smiled slightly back. It was silence between the two of us for the next couple of minutes. The building for the flight trains was just ahead, and we quickly landed, running through the large open doors that were much too big for your average human.
But this is Pangaea Proxima, life will never be like it was a couple thousand years ago, even if it was clearly better than now.
My mind went into a spiral on the history of the globe, the last countries that no longer exist, the five world wars, and the current Monarchy.
