Suzume
"Mel, it's time to wake up, you'll be at the Academy of our dreams within the hour..."
I felt like I was floating, but I was surrounded by darkness. Confused I called out to whomever it was who spoke to me. They repeated themselves,
"Wake up."
I tried to reach out into the darkness, but not to my surprise I felt nothing...
"Wait... Who are you? I recognize your voice."
The voice was calm, and soothing,
"I can't tell you that, but you must wake up."
I frowned,
"But why?"
The voice began to grow frustrated as they replied to my questions,
"Just wake up."
Before I could argue any further I felt myself drift off again...I opened my eyes, and I woke up to the sounds of the flight train soaring over the land, and people chatting further down from where I was. I looked around, the lights were blinding and they hurt. I sighed and rummaged around blindly for my shoulder bag bumping into someone.
"Sorry."
I mumbled as I dug through my bag grabbing a small bottle consisting of medications. Someone chuckled next to me,
"That's alright Mel."
I sat up straight too quickly, my head throbbing a little,
"Who?..."
I glanced over at who was sitting beside me.
But no body sits beside me.
He smiled at me,
"Glad you're awake sleepy head!"Yeah sleepy head!
Oh shut up.
I rubbed my eyes, and yawned before I responded,
"Ray?"
I quickly take my medication, while he responds to me,
"Yup, that's me."
I smiled back,
"Nice to know you didn't ditch me."
He looked confused, as if I had just tried to explain quantum physics to him. I giggled,
"What's with the face?"
He shook his head slightly,
"Why would I ditch you?"
I scratched my arm slightly, thinking of how to respond to his question without sounding like...
A murderer, psychopath, or a criminal.
I laughed awkwardly,
"Ah well um... I'm just weird that's all."
I watched as he stretched his wings slightly, frowning at this vague answer,
"Oh."
I averted my gaze away from him, watching the land rush by in a blur instead. It was quiet between the two of us for the next half an hour or so.You need to talk to him more.
I sighed as the all too familiar voice from earlier spoke to me once again.
Why?
You just do, it's your destiny.
Destiny is bullshit.
No, it's not.
Nothing is set in stone, also who the hell are you?!
I will not tell you my name, the only information I dare give you is that I'm immortal.
I felt confused, and had to hold back a gasp of shock.
WHAT?! Aren't immortals supposed to be executed because of the King's Laws of Pangaea Proxima?!
You're smart, but clearly not THAT smart.
I flinched slightly, I wanted to show more emotion, but I couldn't. I glanced over at Ray, who just smiled at me quickly going back to his phone.
I know, but what do you mean? According to the King's Laws of Pangaea Proxima, Section Twenty-Five B, the law states that 'Any and all immortals must be turned in to the authorities at once, any who are suspected of being acquainted with said immortals will be punished alongside them. Dependent on the relationship with said immortal, the punishment could result in the death penalty.'
