AIDANA'S STORY: PART 2

The newly fallen leaves crunched under her careful steps, frightening a flock of birds perched on a nearby birch branch. They flapped their wings in fear, chattering to one another with a high pitched song. The girl crept forwards under the high sun, trying to stay in the shadows. Her frame was thin with hunger and hair clung to her back with sweat and salt water.

This is a very bad idea. She thought to herself as she spotted Mayi a few feet ahead. The other girl had her spirit animal perched on her shoulder, its gray head swerving around to watch Aidana. It clearly didn't trust her and ever since meeting all those years ago, had attempted to claw out her eyes multiple times. But here they were, about to break into a house and take some expensive medicine, paired with an arch enemy. What could go wrong.

Well what did go wrong happened almost as soon as they reached the edge of the shaded area and peered up the hill where the house sat. It lay above a crystal lake, overlooking the town and out to sea. With its white siding and high roofs, Aidana could already guess that a high in power family lived here. She was right though, the family who indeed lived here were famous among the rich, only visited and went out when necessary. All day long they were pampered within their palace, everything they ever needed was provided, while she was starving on the streets. They were the people she always hated, the ones who threw away perfectly good food and practically starved the town they paid no attention to. Living with her mother had taught her to prize what you already have and not want more, getting greedy on pride. Aidana's mother had been proud of her only daughter until the day she learned that she had a spirit animal, then from then on the girl was lower than the ground they stood on. But right now, I have a place to live. A place I can go back to expect safety, not a voice of steel and needles. But I do have a sort of "family", even if they are a little strange.

Aidana looked around to Mayi and the blond grinned. "You ready?" She asked and pointed gleefully.

"If you are?" She responded.

Mayi giggled, her laugh like a rusted spinning wheel, hard to listen to, but still had a sound that could be made out as joy.

"Find the medicine and get out before they discover we were there." Mayi repeated the plan out loud and nodded. It was a short and sloppy plan, but that was how the girl liked to work. Aidana had never seen her with a good hair day or even a day where she could walk in the streets without a group jumping her. That was just Mayi, someone who didn't mind her life and could outsmart everyone before they even knew what happened. She was dangerous with wits and knives and Aidana was glad she was on her side. Imagine fighting Mayi or having to hide from her? I would die within seconds. She is a natural.

Aidana stepped forwards and followed her companion, slowly coming up to the house. "You know if Anakin finds out about this?" She said.

"He won't have to worry, we will be out and gone before he finishes what he was going to do. We will be back at camp before he can blink." Mayi spoke and flexed her arm, ready for some action. "In and out, no stalling. We come for one thing, not all the jews and diamonds."

"Oh, and you wouldn't want a crown of diamonds on your head?" She joked.

"Well, if I had the time I could rule everyone from here to Zhong, but not today."

"Riches could help us."

"But, also could lead a direct path for the Militia to follow. We would be caught and taken away. Lost to time."

"Point taken."

Qua chirped and they fell silent. The dove fluffed out its feathers and cried an odd sound of anger and interest. Aidana couldn't tell what it was saying, but believed it meant something to do with either, "Quiet, we have arrived" or "Aidana's left eye would make a good meal". She hoped it was the first one.

"Split up and meet here at noon." Mayi said. "Also, keep Wikerus dormant. His voice will give us away. Only summon him when necessary." She finished and sulked off, the dove quiet in the crane of her neck. It was a couple hours since the sun had risen, so that gave her maybe two hours. She hoped that was all it would take, but knowing her life, obstacles always stood in the way.

It made it harder without her spirit animal, but Mayi was right, Wikerus would give away they were here. A raven in the house was not a bright idea. Unless they happened to own pet ravens, then Wikerus would fit right in. But that was unlikely. Think reason. Her mind said. Reason. Reason. I have got nothing. Plan is to sneak in, avoid the family of "who knows how many people '' and get away unnoticed. What could go wrong with that? Except everything!

Climbing over a crooked fence, she secretly hoped they did have a strange addiction to the loud and annoying birds. It would be hilarious when Mayi walks into the dinning room and she is attacked by a dozen black creatures. Her nightmare would finally come true.
