Shipwreck

"What's it doing?" Abeke blurted, looking across the ship's large, wooden deck. Conor tilted his head and glanced at the girl with notice. Her eye's shone of bright confusion and humor. Her dark brown hair was in a braid and loos strands caught the sea breeze. So beautiful. He thought, then snapped his mind back after realizing what he was thinking. I shouldn't do that! Quickly he looked to the spot she was looking at and saw Worthy, the cat'like Redcloak leaning against the ship's railing, his tail twitching and asleep.

That past morning, Conor, Abeke, Meilin, and Rollan had boarded the Greencloak's newest ship in their fleet, the Erdas's Song. They were assigned to travel to a far away land by the name of Kaein, where they were to explore the unknown land. But in reality, the purpose was to find an danger lurking their in the shadows, waiting to strike. Something horrible was waiting for the group and Conor couldn't even tell them what to expect. So Olvan and Lenori told Conor to save it for later and just go for an exploration, keeping the truth a secret.

Worthy had met them by the docks at sunrise. He was bouncing up and down on his heels in anticipation, ready to leave port. His cat-like eyes glowed with pride and happiness when the four entered the dock and greeted him. Alongside him was a young Greencloak who said to call him Tomar. He had rusty hair and tan skin the color of burnt sand of dunes.

Now beside Worthy was a small dusky brown animal with a long tail. It's small hands fished through his pockets eagerly and drew out a thin, silver dagger. Turning the knife over the monkey examined it with interest. Taking it to its mouth the creature snapped back with disapproval, making a sound of disgust. With a nod of the animal tossed the dagger and went back to pick pocketing.

A sharp yelp told Conor that the weapon had landed on the boy harshly. Worthy yanked the knife from his leg and blood spurted from the wound. The Redcloak tilted his white mask with fury. "Oh, you little-" He was cut off when the monkey bound up his arm and onto his dark hair. Taking a paw it swiped at the boy's false face, shrieking loudly. Worthy tried to pry the animal from his head, but it refused to let go.

Conor and Abeke laughed and watched on. "I think Worthy has met his match." She said jokingly. Below footsteps sounded and a man, wearing a green cloak burst towards the boy and monkey. "Let go, Ladron!" He yelled. Instantly the animal dropped off and vanished in a flash of light, becoming a tattoo on the man's neck. "I'm so sorry." He told the Redcloak, who's hair stuck up in sharp angles.

Stunned, Worthy nodded then made his way up to Conor and Abeke. He saw they were nearly in tears and scowled. "Not a word," he managed.

"Wouldn't dream of it." Conor stated.

"Where's Meilin?" He asked.

"She's down training with Rollan."

Conor watched as Worthy patted his inured leg and limped away. He disappeared down a ladder a few moments later, his complaints quieting. The Greencloak smiled and felt a hand lay on his shoulder. Abeke began crying with laughter, her voice high with humor. "I know I shouldn't be laughing, but he was just stabbed by a monkey!" She spoke, "Just his luck."

Conor agreed, "If anyone was to be attacked in such a way, it would be him. He always had a thing for strange odds. Did I ever tell you of the time when I was working for his family and he fell out the window?"

She snorted, "No, you didn't. But do tell!"

"It was one evening, during a dinner. I was placed in the back to assist Devin if needed for the Trunswick family had honored guests. They were a rich family traveling and had been invited to stay for the night.  Well, we hadn't even reached the main course and he decided to impress one of the young girls who happened to be sitting across from him. Devin stood up and poked his fork towards her, saying that she was beyond beautiful and should be his prize. As you could already tell, she didn't like that and from across the table, smacked her hand over his face. He fell back in panic and alarm, his footing slipped and he tripped right out the open window behind him. I found him laying in a bush and took me two days to wake him up."
