I am Not a Victim, I am a Survivor

It happened years ago; I barely remember it. Yet,
An apartment room, I can see clear as day.
Mountain Dew bottles strewn about,
Not quite sure what is in them
Or even if I want to know.
Today's date was a movie in bed in the dark. Well,
Almost a date as they asked me to take off my pants.
Various memories reclaim space in my head,
Interesting how there are still wounds that need
Cauterizing as the skin never fully pulled back
Together. Who knew that fawning was an
Intimate part of my personality, raping
Me without me truly knowing.

Imagine healing for years, getting ready to move on
Again, it happens, yet it is not quite the same.
My eyes cannot believe the sights
Auditory signals echo in a quiet space.
Surrounding my ears without my consent.
Unraveling trust from years of brainwash. Let's
Reimagine a safe place, far from the
Very traumatic experiences with those you thought were safe.
Imagine, feeling the warmth of the sun, from an open sky,
Virtually drawing a fire, feeling the heat without being near it.
Overturn the past, learn, and redo.
Redefine the meaning of Victim to Survivor.
