You were there the day I came into this world
You made things so much fun
You let me sit on your lap
And play cards with you
But now things have changed
And like a wolf howling at the moon
I cry for you

You were there the day I lost my friend
You made things feel so much better
You let me cry into your shoulder
And I got snot all over the place
But now things have changed
And like a fawn calling for their mother
I cry for you

I was there the day you promised me that you would live forever
I was so happy to hear those words
I took those words everywhere I went
From your house to mine
To family and friends
Finally to college
But now things have changed
And like the sound of the leaves in the wind
I cry for you

I have watched you now lose everything important to you
I have seen your mobility leave this plan
I have heard your speech
And realized your memories
Are no longer there
So now I ask, do you remember your promise
Will you live forever for me
And like a granddaughter crying about her dying grandmother
I cry for you
