Word count: 1651 (This chapter is kinda just setting up the plot for what I plan to happen in the next few parts so it's kinda important to read. If it seems too boring of a plot then let me know, but I'm kind of excited with how it's going.)
Aaron T's POV
The school looked like a massive dungeon. It stood tall in front of him with long sets of stairs where the inmates sat and chatted with each other, laughing at jokes about each other's moms and the fact that the sky was up. It was more socially acceptable to call them 'students' though.
Highschool...
He hated school. He was always unlucky enough to have teachers that he didn't like. His feelings were reciprocated because they didn't like how lively and energetic he was. He was never able to sit down and focus for long periods of time. His friends back in Seatle called him T, but here at his new school, he didn't have any.
It was his third day at South-East New York high school, so he was known as just "Aaron" to the teachers who had bothered to learn his name. Slowly, he began his ascent to the steps that lead to the school's front doors.
He didn't like SENY. The people weren't nice no matter how much the pamphlets stated otherwise. There was a hierarchy at school and it didn't take Aaron long to figure it out. Like the majority of the students, he was at the bottom. That's why he took his time getting to class. He was early anyway.
He shuffled through the halls, avoiding the eyes of others. It felt weird to walk alone, and even weirder that no one so much as waved him 'hello'. He didn't expect much since he'd barely spoken to anyone, but back in Seattle, everyone was kind and said "Hi" to each other. Here, it was dreary despite the School's name.
The problem wasn't that he was nervous, because Aaron was never the nervous type. It was that no one seemed to care to hear what he had to say. He slid into his first-period seat. His teacher, Mr. Dutton was his eleventh-grade Calculous teacher. Aaron never cared for math, so naturally, he fell asleep from the early hour and lack of interest in the class. It certainly didn't help that Dutton's voice was duller than the colour grey.
Just as he began to doze off and his head was about to smack on his desk, he heard his teacher clear his throat.
"As you know, there will be a few new clubs running this year." he turned and wrote on the chalkboard. "For some reason, I have to list them for you."
He began to list all of the new clubs:
1) Debate club
2) Film club (limited spots)
3) Newspaper club (photographers)
4) Girls softball team
5) Dance team (limited spots)
Mr. Dutton grumbled as he wrote the last club down.
"This is a school," he said. "For learning... and yet teachers want to encourage students to lollygag and jump around on stages." He turned to look back at his students, but Aaron was no longer focusing on him. He looked at the chalkboard with wide eyes.
Had he finally found his motivation to continue to come to school? Until then, he was just going because his mother encouraged him to go and "spread his wings". But maybe going to SENY wasn't going to be so bad after all.

The dance team tryouts were held a week later after school in the gym. Aaron had arrived early as one of the coaches was setting up speakers. It was a tryout where competitors had to prepare a routine for one of the selected songs. If they passed the first tryout, they'd go on to two more before the official dance team was selected which would include only five members.
