When we entered the art room everybody stared at us. We were a few minutes late but not many.
"Nice of you to join us." Spoke Mr. Grayling, not even bothering to look up from his desk.
Jasper and I began working on our painting.
"So what do you think we should do for this painting?" Asked Jasper.
"Well, I'm not really sure yet, but I have a few ideas." I said.
"So, are you going to call your dad after school?" He asked.
"Yes." I responded.
Just then Jasper's girlfriend, Regan and her friend Sheryl came over to our table.
"So, what are you and, whatever that is doing." Said Regan.
"She has a name you know." Said Jasper.
"Yeah I know I just choose not to learn it." Responded Regan.
"Her name is Harmony, and that is what you're going to call her Regan." Argued Jasper.
"Wow babe, don't get so tense, we're just messing around." She started. "Oh, what's this?" She said lifting up my sketch book.
"Put it down Regan!" Said Jasper in a tense voice.
"Calm down, I'm just looking, wow these are really good Harmony, oops." She said dropping it in a bucket of paint.
"Regan, that's enough you're taking this too far!" Said Sheryl behind her.
"Calm down Sher, it's just that things drawings." Said Regan.
"Okay Regan that's enough, we're through, lose my number!" Said Jasper.
I was shocked nobody ever stood up for me before. I really didn't expect Sheryl and Jasper to.
"Yeah Regan, lose mine too I'm tired of you treating people this way." Said Sheryl.
"What! Nobody's ever left me before!" Said Regan. Then she stormed off.
"I'm sorry about that Harmony, do you think, maybe, we could be friends?" Asked Sheryl.
"Yes, I'd like that, Sheryl, and thank you for standing up for me earlier, no ones ever really done that for me." I said.
"No problem." She responded, and she went back to her partner.
"I'm sorry about that too, she can get way out of hand, but I'm your friend so I'm going to help you get through this." Said Jasper.
"Thanks." I said. The bell rang. After school I called my dad and after a lot of yelling he let me go. Me and Jasper walked to his house. As soon as we got to the front steps I was amazed. He has a white two story house with a balcony.
"Wow! This is amazing!" I said as I gazed in excitement.
"Yeah, my parents say go big or go join the poor, it's weird but, their my parents." Responded Jasper. We entered the exciting structure and their at the door stood Jaspers mother.
"Mom Harmony, Harmony mom." He introduced us as we shook hands.
"Hello Harmony, as you just heard I am Jaspers mother, I'll be sure you feel like your at home here." She said, Jaspers mother was in fact very generous.
"Thank you, Mrs. Folsom." I replied. Then she walked off. Jasper brought me upstairs to his room. His room was giant. He had a king sized bed, almost 1,000 baseball cards, two dressers full to the brim of clothes, and a brown leather massage chair with a freezer. I was amazed at what could fit in one room.
"Wow this is a cool room." I said looking everything over again and again.
"It's not much compared to my parents room." Jasper responded just giving me a glance as I searched for a place to sit.
"So what do you think we should do for this assignment?" He asked me.
"Well something simple since everybody's going all out." I said. Jasper had an idea for the project and we immediately got to work.
We worked for about 4 hours. And when I say "worked" I mean talked the whole time. It turns out we are both procrastinators. I didn't know how sweet Jasper was until today.
"If you ever, and I mean ever, need anything you can always talk to me."Said Jasper.
"Okay, thank you! You don't know how much that means to me." I responded with a smile being strung across my face.
Before I left, he gave me his number. I put (479)-280-9970 in my phone marked under "My Best Friend". He made life so much easier for me.
Day after day I fell for him a little more. He was my hope of living. We started to talk over the phone all night long.
The day of the presentation Jasper and I stayed up all night finishing the project. We were late to class again and both got assigned Saturday school. We presented second to last giving us time to put some finishing touches. When it was finally our turn I was really nervous but Jasper guided me up there. When we showed everyone our project they seemed a bit confused.
"What's that supposed to be?" Asked one of the students in the back of the class. We had painted the whole canvas grey and black, but with a gold circle in the middle of the piece.
"It symbolizes how we treat people as a whole. The grey and black stands for the people that get treated badly by the gold." I said.
"The gold is the people who think they are so much better then everyone else." Explained Jasper.
"Wow, very impressive." Said Mr. Grayling, "A's for both of you." I hugged Jasper in excitement and he wrapped his arms around me. All time seemed to stop with his chest against mine. We slowly escaped each others grasp looking into one another's eyes. Then we walked back to our seat.
"So I got invited to this party tonight, would you like to come?" Asked Jasper.
"I'd love to, my dads out of town for the weekend so I can go anywhere." I responded. After school Jasper walked me home.
"So, I guess I'll pick you up at 7:00?" Asked Jasper.
"Yep, see you then." I said. It didn't take me long to find something to wear, considering I found it out of my mom's closet. I chose to wear a black cocktail dress with purple stripes on the top and bottom, and over it I wore a black leather jacket.
Time flew by so fast, by the time I was done with my hair and makeup Jasper was already knocking on my door. I counted 4 knocks as I headed to the door. When I opened it Jasper looked great. Blue denim jeans, a plain white shirt, a blue plaid shirt opened up to see the white one underneath, and black sneakers with a white tip.
"Wow!" He said with a smile looking me up and down, "You look amazing." He finished.
"So we leaving?" I asked in the calmest voice I could get out. I had never been to a real party, well if you count a five year olds birthday party. I walked outside closing the door behind me.
"Let's do this." Said Jasper. I gave him a glance and a nod. The whole walk there we just talked and talked till our mouths began to get numb. As we entered the party, I began to feel sick.
"I don't think I can do this." I told Jasper.
"Come on, I'll be right by your side the whole party." He responded with a smile across his face. Finally I walked in feeling confident. As time passed I realized I had to use the bathroom.
"I'll be right back." I told Jasper, then I walked off.
