Memory Confusion

ALTHEA

I fluttered my eyes open as I felt a strong headache hit me. The bright light above made me squint my eyes before I could adjust to it.

My mind could not recall what happened but I recognized the scent of the room I was in. I think by now everyone knows the smell that floats around a hospital.

But what am I doing here?

The door suddenly opened and a male doctor stepped in whom I soon recognised as Neo Brown, the doctor who was in charge of me back at the mental retreat.

"You are awake" he said with a smile on his face.

"What am I doing here?" I questioned as he lowered the brightness of the light that was starting to hurt my eyes.

I remember that I suffered from eye problems when I was still in high school though now they were much less because I could read and see without glasses.

"Ah! Exactly as expected. Your mind has mixed up all your current memories because it has been exposed to people who trigger your past ones" he said and I raised my brow.

"Why?" I implored.

"It happens to everyone who suffered from amnesia but it seemed like your brain is in a hurry to recall hence all the confusion. Do you have nightmares, maybe of the past?" He asked and I recalled the picture of my parents that had been haunting me ever since I started to remember that memory.

"Yes" I replied and he nodded as the door opened and Anabelle stepped in. She smiled when she saw me and moved to sit herself down on the couch near the corner.

"Well it seems like there is something that your mind wants you recall hence the sudden events. I will have to run some tests and keep you under surveillance for a few days" he said and I felt all my memories rush back.

I remembered that I had to be in Dubai by tomorrow to handle the business with both Alexander and Mr Curtis.

"I unfortunately have business matters to attend that cannot be postponed so I will have to refuse staying here beyond today" I said and he turned to me with a worried expression.

"Business is not more important than your life, Miss Caddel. You could die of brain failure from this events" he said and I sighed.

"I could also die from starvation if I cannot handle my business. I have over a thousand employees who's lives are in my hands, Mr Brown" I argued.

He stopped for a moment and turned to Anabelle for help but I was determined to attack them both if they tried to keep me here.

As per the threats launched by Alexander, not coming would mean my resignation to the company and I would be damned to ever let that man run our company alone.

"I am afraid she says the last word. No one can stand against her so you are on your own, Mr Brown" Anabelle said washing off her hands from all this business.

I guess she figured she was one of the 1000 employees I talked about and would lose her job if she tried to reason with me. I guess I was that cruel sometimes.

"Well then, I will run some tests and inform you about the results over the phone. For now, I suggest you rest and keep away from stress or work overload" he said and I nodded.

Once he was satisfied, he walked out to sign my discharge papers as Anabelle handed me my phone which was ringing.

"Hello" I answered.

"Where are you? I am only giving you thirty minutes to reach the airport or I will take this as you resigning" I heard Pierce on the other side.

This made me pause and look at the date. I had been conscious for two days? I sighed and turned back to the call.

"Give me an hour" I said and hung up before he could. No one had ever hung up on me and I will keep that record till I probably die.

"Why have you not told me about this? Now I have not even packed-" I was about to say when Anabelle placed a packed suitcase in front of me.

"I figured you would not spend your time here so I packed your clothes in case you woke up today" she said and I smiled.

"Thank you" I said and she smiled back at me.

"It is my job. No need to thank me. I think I should give you space to change and sign your discharge papers. Mr Pierce is not a patient man" she said and I nodded.

"I second that one" I said and slipped off the bed towards the suitcase. I figured since we would be on a private plane, that much classy clothes would not be needed.

So I instead opted for a more casual and simple look. Black skinny pants with a white Karl tee and a matching blazer draped over my shoulders.

My brunette hair cascaded down my back and was covered by a black Karl cap. White sneakers were on my feet and this was actually the first time I wore sneakers.

I did my makeup to make sure there was no hint that I was sick or in the hospital. Earlier on when I slid off the bed,I felt a little dizzy but decided to carry.

"Everything is ready. Should I drop you at the airport?" Anabelle asked and I nodded as we walked away from the airport towards the car.

I stepped to the driver's seat and opened my palm for the keys. Anabelle looked at me like I had grown two heads.

"I thought I was driving you" She said.

"You are a careful driver and I have less than 20 minutes to reach that airport" I said and took the keys before I climbed into the car.

She hopped into the passenger seat and I drove off from the hospital. The airport was about 30 minutes away but I could cover it if I raced fast enough.

A smirk appeared on my face as I raced against time and reached the airport within 18 minutes. I stepped out to find Alexander leaned against his golden Lamborghini.

Anabelle stepped out on the other side and clutched her stomach as if she would puke on the spot. I guess she was not used to my speed yet.

I gave her a bottle of water to drink and my car keys before I headed off towards Alexander.

He lowered his sunglasses and he scanned me from top to bottom. Something I realised he started to frequently do each time we met.

"You've finally arrived" he said.

"I had to rush after I heard how much you missed me" I said with a smirk on my face earning an eye roll from him.

"I am seriously not in the mood, Caddel. Come on" he said and turned towards the private jet.

"Yes sir" I said and he turned to me with death glare that would definitely cut one into shredded pieces. God! This man was scary sometimes.

In order to keep myself alive, I decided to let him live in peace and keep mum the rest of the flight. All I wanted was to arrive in one piece.
