-All I could do was think about Zigzag. His smile, his jokes, the way his eyes look when he laughs. Some times I would get distracted from digging my hole and just stare at him.

Zero would pick up on this and try to get me back on task. The task being absolutely terrible.

Zigzag did make it better though. He would tell me jokes and make me laugh or smile.

Zigzag had also been waiting for me, while I dug my hole. He would sometimes help me, only when I was too tired.

I didn't want to look or seem weak. I knew I could do it on my own, why get someone else to do it.

I had a little muscle because prior to coming here, I had been a pretty active person. Track, swimming and lacrosse were my main sports.

This reminded me of my friends, I had been sending them all letters. And most of the time the gesture was returned.

-

I lifted my hand up quickly wiping the sweat, from the heat, off my forehead.

I looked up and Zigzag was walking over to my hole, looking around I noticed his hole was done.

"Finished early today?" I asked Zigzag.

"Yup, Zero beat me to finishing first." he laughed. Like I said before, he looked beautiful while laughing.

I must have been staring for too long because Zigzag started calling my name while, and waving his hand in front of my face. I shook my head before Zigzag started to laugh. He bent down and then jumped into my not-so-deep hole.

That caused his face to be lightly covered in a dusty layer of the dirt. I started to laugh at how he reacted.

"What?" he asked in confusion. That just made me laugh more, until I was clutching my stomach from it hurting so much. At this point Zigzag was also doubling over from his laughter.

We heard a loud sort of buzzing noise, and saw Mr. Sir's truck driving up. Zigzag rushed and ducked while I went back to digging until Mr. Sir left.

-

I had walked back with Zigzag but hung out with Stanley and Zero while, Stanley taught Zero how to write and read helping out every so often.

English had always been a subject I enjoyed, even though I had grown up being behind in literacy compared to the other people in my grade.

When it was time for dinner we walked there together and I sat in my usual spot, next to Zigzag.

Everybody else broke into conversation so, I turned to Zigzag. He looked up from his food and looked at me before he pushed the plate away and fully turning his body to face mine.

I smiled this. It truly made me happy, because, he cared.

A/N: I published this without the authors note 🤦 anyways, definitley not going to finish this book before I move. I'm moving in 2 days, so that was very good planning. Hope you guys are doing well!
