Part 5: Party Planning

Kai'sa sat before me in a chair I had placed in front of my desk. She had her head hanging as she didn't dare to look in my eyes. She squirmed in her chair playing with her fingers her breathing noticeably quicker that usual. I could sense her heartbeat it was rather high. She was dangerously close to a panic attack. 

Dick, Connor, M'gann and Kaldur stood behind me as we all stared at the young woman who was about to enter a panic attack. We had initiated a private mind link so we could converse with each other freely without her hearing.

'What should we do? She obviously heard what you said, so we can't just-' M'gann began in the link as I gaze at Kai'sa. Her blood was pumping rather heavily but she looked pale as a ghost. The poor girl was about to lose it.

'I wanted her to hear it. I'm not proclaimed the worlds greatest detective for nothing. I knew she was there and I purposely left the door open.' I said as Connor looked at me perplexed as he thought.

'Why would you do that?'

'Evelynn knows my feeding secret. After she found out about it I felt a weight lift off my shoulders. I realized that if I told these girls everything it would be easier to gain their trust while being able to fully protect them. Granted the others can't know just quite yet. However it should be fine to tell her.'

"Kai'sa." I spoke as she yelped and started to shake in her chair clearly frightened that I was going to do something to her. I sigh and stand up as I move in front of her seeing her stiffen and even stop breathing. I crouch in front of her having her look me in the eyes as I speak with the most gentle voice possible.

"Breathe for me Bokkie." I whisper as she slowly and heavily exhales and starts taking in breaths. I smile gently cupping her cheek having her look at me reassuring her she is safe.

"You're ok, I'm not mad. I knew you were listening in on our conversation. Please understand you're not in trouble." I said as I saw her slowly nod but she was still shaking clearly scared. I knew one way to help her. I used to do it to Tim when he had nightmares. 

I slowly pick her up bridal style as I walk around the desk slowly sitting in my chair with her on my lap. Her face goes beet red while I position her and start gently running my fingers through her hair. She grows redder, my hand gently running through her long, messy hair.

"Do you feel a bit safer?" I ask when I notice her visible shaking has stopped. She shifts in my lap slowly looking at me finding my eyes trained on her with a kind manor. She slowly nods as she rested her head in my chest.

"You're the Batman..." She said letting her head push deeper into my neck. "I'm sorry... I shouldn't have listened in... It wasn't my place..." 

"Please don't think you're at fault here. I left the door open because I wanted you to hear me. I saw your curiosity to know more. But your shyness stopped you from asking. So I set this up so you could find out. It's been tiring trying to hide this since you girls moved in. Evelynn knows about something I want to tell you. And when she found out, I felt so much stress leave me... I want to tell the girls but now it not the time." I explained rocking her back and forth gently as I look up at the ceiling. "I'm sorry I tricked you."

"N-No! I-I mean it's a-alright. I-I'm not mad... It's just... a lot... B-But you said Eve f-found something out? Was it not you being Batman?" She asked moving to look up at me. I could see the confusion in her eyes. But I also saw her curiosity. It was cute almost.

"I have an ability like you girls do. It's Vampirism. Bat like powers in exchange for feeding on human blood." I said as I heard her heart quicken as she looked at me with wide eyes. I couldn't help but chuckle.
