Flying Over

The last Greg left the house, rolling her coral and white polka-dot luggage bags behind her; the contents inside practically spilling out due to how overpacked she was.

While walking out the door, an old looking paper slipped out from a small open pocket on the back of her suitcase.

"Follow the cat" it read.

She didn't bother to look back.

Drew was a paltry thirty-minutes away now. Danny could feel his palms begin to sweat at the mere idea of Drew and him being alone together in his enormous home. He removed some lip balm from his back pocket and applied it anxiously. He had to give his hands something to do or he'd go insane.

The noisy vacuum cleaner drowned out everything but his thoughts; his arm pushing it robotically across the lower living room's carpet.

He'd already had a feeling that once he announced to Greg where Drew would be staying for the next week, they wouldn't exactly take it in stride. Although his rationality told him otherwise, he'd at least hoped they'd be a bit more sympathetic. That maybe, if they'd gotten to hear about the situation directly from Drew, they'd understand.

No such luck.

He decided then he wasn't going to let his family get him down. If they were going to act stubborn- fine. So be it. The giddiness of being unbothered and alone with Drew for a whole seven days outweighed the feeling of betrayal he harbored for their unforgiving absence.

He knew what was happening to Drew was terrible and undeserved, but these circumstances- or at least, some form of twisted luck- were bringing them together for the first time since both of their divorces.

Drew never talked to Danny about why he and Amanda had broken things off. They'd always seemed so happy together; smiling in every photo, each video... But, as Danny supposed, you can't always trust everything you see online.

The thought made him let out a faint chuckle.

Before he knew it, the doorbell rang. Drew was here and Danny was glowing-- with nervous perspiration, that is.

Opening one of the double doors to greet his friend, Danny stepped out onto the worn-out welcome mat and they embraced in an ageless hug.

Danny sniffed, taking in the pleasant smell of Drew's cologne. Definitely the new Cableless Father x Versache scent, he decided.

"Classy," Danny uttered.

"What was that?" Drew simpered vividly at Danny's hidden comment.

Goggling at Drew's seamless smile, Danny making a hasty effort to excuse his tongue. "God. Why does he have to look so adorable? "

After stuttering through a few abrupt justifications- and failing- Drew warmly laughed it off, relieving Danny's nerves enough to invite him inside.

Once they stepped into the lofty, jumbled mansion, however, Drew turned to face Danny, placing a cordial yet surprisingly tender hand on his left shoulder. Danny could feel the hairs on the back of his neck straighten as he looked upward to catch his wanting gaze. Drew's eyes coyly met his.

He smirked.

"Thanks for inviting me, Danny."
