It was getting pretty late, almost 5 o'clock in the evening. You just finished your after-school tutoring session and went to your locker to pack everything up. It was really quiet in the campus, almost everyone left.
As you slammed the door after packing, you heard quick footsteps echoing through the hallways.
Oh no, you thought. What if it's a teacher, discovering that I haven't headed back home yet?
You quickly hurried towards the staircase.
But you were wrong. It was...
Shu?
You saw that small strand of yellow hair dangling from the top of his head. His purple eyes seemed to glow from afar. He was such an energetic boy, but he was also so good at his studies...
You've been liking him for almost 1 year now. Actually... A lot of people know this. Sometimes people just get curious and gossip about those private things, right?
Every time the teachers put all of the students into discussion groups, you always have the thought of getting into the same group as Shu. But... you needed to stop yourself from losing your mind over him.
And in 4 out of 10 cases, you're with him.
"Y/N? What are you doing here?"
Your heart sank, but suddenly started to beat faster.
"Sh-shu?" You didn't even notice yourself stuttering of nervousness.
"H-hey." He stammered a bit too, probably because of such a strange occasion you were both in. "How's the day going?"
"Pretty good." You tried to avoid his gaze.
"I just finished my student council meeting. We talked about a lot of upcoming events, including a field trip, eyyy!..."
Good thing he started blabbering about what he heard, you thought. You breathed out to let all the nervousness out.
After he talked about all the things he discussed with his fellow student council members, he finally turned to you. "What about you, Y/N? Have you done anything interesting today?"
"Uhm... I didn't really..." You said as you tried to get your focus off Shu and focus on thinking what you have done today.
"Did you... Oh, nevermind." Shu was about to ask something but it seemed like he gulped his words back.
"What is it, Shu?" You got kind of thrilled as you didn't really get any chance of getting asked what you've done by your crush.
"I thought it was rude to say so."
"It's okay, ask out, I can answer anything." Your voice kind of trailed off as you were still in the excitement of the fact that Shu actually cared about your actions, wholeheartedly.
"I heard you were doing an after-school studying and tutoring session." Shu had that tiny bit of uncertainty in his voice.
"Oh, yeah." You said.
"How's it going?" Shu finally started putting his stationery into his backpack.
"Pretty good."
"If you need help with any of your studies, just let me know. I can help you with math especially, I'm good at it."
Awww, that's really sweet of you. You thought, but it would be kind of weird to say it directly to him.
There was the sound of rain pounding on the window.
"Oh no, it's raining." Shu started getting a bit anxious.
You wondered if he forgot to bring an umbrella.
"Oh god... I should have bring an umbrella..." He sighed.
Here comes the opportunity, don't waste it. You heard a voice in your mind.
"Uhh, Shu? We can use my umbrella if you want."
"Oh, thanks. Eyyy, I thought I had to go home soaked!" He chuckled.
You grinned at him, but felt your cheeks frozen in one place. You didn't realize you were awkwardly smiling at Shu all the time during your conversation.
"Anyways, let's go." Shu slung his backpack onto one of his shoulders.
"Oh, Y/N, we live very close to each other, don't we? Just about 2-3 blocks away."
You nodded in agreement.
"Eyyy, that's nice."
You don't often go home together with him. Usually he didn't have this kind of Student Council meeting, and you usually have studying sessions after school so it's a norm that you go home late.
You thought about all the things Shu has told you. All of that sounds fun, especially if these activities involve Shu.
No, don't think like that. You tried to stop yourself from imagining all kinds of things you would do with Shu.
Your grip on the umbrella loosened, and the umbrella almost fell onto you two.
"Y/N, are you tired? I can hold the umbrella if you want to." He smiled.
Your mind suddenly went blank.
"It's okay, it's not far away from our homes now, I can hold it for you." He gently pulled the umbrella out of your loosened grip and held it.
"Th-thank you, Shu..." You wanted to show him how appreciative you're around him, but you gave up on that thought.
"You're welcome." Shu just said that in his normal tone.
You wanted to savor everything he says. You wanted to be grateful of every sound he makes, every single letter, every single word, every phrase, every sentence, every paragraph...
"Y'know, Y/N, I'd like to spend more time with you." Shu let out his classic laugh (or is it a chuckle?) after he said this.
You didn't know how to respond.
The rain seemed to stop. Your feelings weren't depressed and gloomy like the rain anymore. They seemed to brighten up a bit. Oh no, it's... a lot.
