Chapter Seven, Bye Bye Edwardo

Jasper was pissed! Scrap that he was beyond mad, as yet again Edward had ruined the time he had with his mate.
"I'm sorry Captain, I think I heard you wrong!" Jasper hissed, beyond livid. Peter winced as he knew from the tone and from the pacing he could hear that Major was breaching the surface.
"I'm sorry Major but it seems Alice was also in league with Edwardo and the Volturi will be here in a couple of hours." Peter explained quickly, wincing once more from the roar of anger that Jasper let loose. "But, Carlisle, thanks to myself, was able to convince Aro that Edward had told them lies and half truths, so they will assess each of our memories but particularly mine and Char's before they come to any conclusion."

"We'll keep you informed Major." Char assured, snatching the phone from her husband. "Just spend time with your new wife. I want news of a niece or nephew in the next coming weeks." She teased him, Emmett chuckling raucously in the background, as she hung up.
"Now we wait." Esme sighed, hoping everything worked out well in the end.

Twelve hours later the Volturi plus Edward who was being restrained by Felix, had arrived at the Cullens residence leaving everyone rather tense as Aro got to work reading everyone's mind starting with Alice. He had read Edward's mind on the flight over from Italy and to say he was most displeased would be an understatement. Finally, Aro was letting go for Peter's hand - the last person - as he paced the Forest processing all of the thoughts he'd been bombarded with in the last few hours as he shared what he'd learnt with his brothers as they decided on the next course of action.

"We shall not be ending the lives of the Amazon Coven today, they are safe, especially Major and his mate." Aro informed the Cullens, Peter and Char as they entered the property once more. "From the Captain and Lieutenant's thoughts we have sufficient evidence to see that we have been lied to and betrayed by Edward and dear Alice." Aro said, causing Peter, Char, Emmett and Rosalie to relax while causing Gwen, Esme and Carlisle to tense as they feared for Alice and Edward. "For framing another Coven and subsequently nearly causing the vampiric world to lose some bright and powerful vampires, and for lying to your Kings and manipulating them I find you Edward Anthony Mason Cullen guilty and are sentenced to death." Aro continued in a quiet fury, not showing an ounce of remorse.

"As for you Alice," Caius hissed, "this is your first and final warning. If you cannot accept the mate you have and fail to leave Major, his mate and their Coven alone you will be joining Edward in death."
"We shall be looking for this José Luis as he shall be tried and found guilty of his crimes and near exposure of our world. However, that said, we have garnered enough evidence to believe that Hybrids are not so different from us. In fact they can blend in better than us as they can eat human food and have blood, they can sleep and can go in the sun without risk of exposure unlike us. So any hybrids that come from other unions are safe as long as they follow the rules set forth by their parents and covens." Marcus added, looking to Peter and Charlotte who sighed with relief, bowing their heads.

"Thank you, my Kings." Peter, Char, Emmett and Rosalie said gratefully.
"Felix, you know what to do. I want to go home." Caius ordered.
"Gwen, dear child, if you wish to join us once more in light of all this disappointment you may. And Carlisle, it is only the fact you are an old friend that has stayed our hand on the rest of your coven and the only reason we are showing you mercy. Do not make us regret this! Get the rest of your coven in order before we are forced to step in a second time." Aro ordered darkly.
"Of course Aro. Thank you." Carlisle said quickly, relief and fear surging through him.
"Car -"
"Not a word, Alice!" Carlisle ordered.

"You've caused us all enough trouble. As have you Edward! I'm so very disappointed in both of you." Esme sighed, turning away as her son was killed; Demetri burned the corpse to ash before the Volturi sped away back to their private jet to Italy.
"How did we get this so wrong, Esme?" Carlisle sighed, watching as Alice stomped up to her room sulking, Peter and Charlotte on the phone to Jasper and Kachiri, Gwen packing to head off travelling for a while to get away from Alice until she realised what she actually had, and Emmett and Rosalie packing to join Peter and Charlotte in Texas. Peter and Char were going to teach Emmett and Rosalie the ways of the human diet before the four of them would join Jasper and Aiyana in the Amazon once their honeymoon was over.

"I don't know Carlisle but something needs to change. I don't want to give the Volturi another reason to return and I don't want to miss out on my new daughter-in-law and future grand-babies lives. We already missed the wedding and have not even met Aiyana yet. I don't want to miss out on more." Esme sighed sadly, resting against Carlisle as she watched her family break apart all because of jealousy. "Rosalie and Emmett already don't forgive us for missing Jasper and Aiyana's wedding, if they had missed out on their niece or nephew that fracture would've become too great to fix no matter the length of time we gave them. I wouldn't even forgive us."
"I know my love, I know." Carlisle sighed, kissing Esme's temple tenderly as they mourned the loss of the son they lost - years ago if truth be told - and mourned the loss of their family as they wondered where they had gone so wrong.
