Third POV
______________________________
The next day at training Furi was meditating when she felt someone watching her. She opened her eyes and wasn't surprised to see Obito glaring at her through his goggles.
Furi stood up and crossed her arms.
"I have a bone to pick with you." He growled as he reached for her arm.
She slid backward, Obito just missing her by centimeters.
"Why?" She asked, calmly assessing the situation as he ran at her.
"You vanished!"
Furi sighed, realizing the issue. She dodged a surprisingly good kick and grabbed Obito's hand as he tried to punch her.
"I see. I could not risk getting caught as the Hokage hates when I disappear like that." Furi managed to get Obito to calm down and glanced around at the empty training grounds.
Minato-sensei had taken Rin and Kakashi to a different one to have them spar and left Furi and Obito to spar in their usual one.
A few minutes of actually sparring later and Obito was laid flat, arms behind his head and watching the clouds. Furi lay next to him, arms crossed over her chest as if she was in a coffin.
"Hey Furi?" Obito broke the silence as usual.
Furi hummed to show he had her attention.
"Why do you always wear those type of clothes?" Obito looked at her clothes as he said this.
Today she was wearing a black long sleeved, turtle neck shirt and pants, both with wrappings at the end. Her ninja sandals covered her feet entirely and she had full hand gloves on.
"Not once," Obito continued when she didn't speak. "have I seen any piece of skin besides half of your face. Which brings up another question. Why do you wear a mask that only covers the left half of your face? And you always have that see through mask covering your mouth."
Obito sat up at the same time as Furi, staring into her eyes. It was the only part of the left half of her face revealed. Obito found his sight impaired by a pair of hands a second later.
"Close your eyes. I am showing you why." Furi whispered, sounding anxious.
Obito went to speak and then decided not to. He closed his eyes, feeling Furi's hands slipping from them, and listened as various buckles were undone. He heard some shuffling before Furi covered his eyes again.
"Can I see?" He asked, his voice a rough whisper.
Furi removed her hands, which he noticed was bare as he opened his eyes and stared.
Down to the fingertips of her hands and spreading everywhere else was scars, all of various sizes and causes.
Her arms were just as mangled as her hands and her legs were worse. Her sandals were gone and her pant legs rolled up.
He got to her face and noticed the mask was gone. He could see why now and he wished he hadn't asked.
It had been mutilated to the point he didn't think it could be classified as human.
"I know. Before I met Nii-san, Kushina and Minato I was not loved." Furi said, putting her various articles of clothing back on.
He stared at her mouth, entranced by the way only one half had moved. The other half looked as if it had been stitched shut and no one had bothered to open it yet.
Her speech was entirely unaffected by the way her mouth moved and he wanted to know why.
"How...?" Obito looked back into Furi's eyes and saw pain, sadness and something that stole his breath.
In her eyes was madness and a lot of it. He knew the signs, had seen people succumb to it before.
"I'm leaving." Furi announced, standing up and walking away.
Obito let her, trying to absorb everything he had already learned.
