A chipper knock sounded on the door to the captain's office. Said captain sighs, exasperated. The unwanted holiday festivities his subordinates were so eager to force into the workspace had already leaked its essence into his office by orange streamers, ghouls, and goblins hanging from the ceiling.
"Enter," never looking up from his paperwork, Wesker reluctantly grants emission to the knocker.
The door swings open to reveal Jill Valentine and Rebecca Chambers dressed as a vampire and a witch, respectively. Rebecca had a cheap black pointy witch's hat and an even cheaper looking purple cape hooked around her neck. Jill's own black intricately laced cape drastically contrasts with the plastic vampire dentures she unapologetically shows off, red streaks stain the corners of her grinning mouth (most likely cherry Fun Dip she didn't bother wiping off for aesthetics).
"Happy Halloween, Captain!"
Wesker suppresses another exhale. He observes the girls from the corner of his eyes as they took the two steps into his too small office space. Rebecca held out a large aluminum tin covered in cartoonish stars with an enlarged crescent moon on the front.
The inside of the tin had mixed popcorn, wafer sticks, and typical Halloween candy with a white paper divider keeping all three options from blending together.
"We have your favorite," Rebecca sang, "dark chocolate hazelnut!"
Stubbornly refusing to remove his eyes from the paper, if only to make himself look busy, Wesker reaches into the tin to grab a wafer stick. He took a bite but the way he held it in between his index and middle fingers causes Rebecca to giggle and Jill to snort so hard she started choking on something (a popcorn kernel) then ran out to washed it down with some punch.
The corner of Wesker's mouth curved up slightly.
Once Rebecca recovers from her laughter she places another wafer on top of the captain's empty coffee cup, away from important documents and preventing crumbs from gather atop the desk.
"If you want any more don't be afraid to ask, okay?" Rebecca generously offers.
For the first during that entire meeting Wesker lifts his head, tilts his sunglasses down enough to show the blues of his irises, "Why, Miss Chambers, you have my word." He takes another bite, smoker's fashion.
Rebecca snickers until she hears Enrico loudly wondering where the wafers were. "Coming!" She announces, exiting the office room.
Wesker shook his head lethargically as he set to organizing the papers into their respective folders. He thought about retiring for the day though none of the S.T.A.R.S. had to leave for another hour. However, he couldn't put off correcting documents and reports when most of them were turned in late-
FWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!!
The abruptness of party favors cutting through and dominating the sound waves of the S.T.A.R.S. office made Wesker's decision for him. He didn't even have to look out the window or his open door to see Barry and Brad are battling each other with said party favors. He knew.
They did this on Independence Day as well.
Wesker vehemently thought to himself.
Before he could take one step out from behind his desk, Wesker spotted Chris attempting to leave the party. Chris was stopped by Richard whom he politely gave the bathroom excuse to as he finally left.
Curiosity peaked in the S.T.A.R.S. captain. Every year on Halloween since the team have been working together Chris Redfield always slipped away when during the party. He'd disappear from thirty minutes to two hours and nobody knows why or why for.
