Chapter 1

Not wanting to waste any more time, Yami stood up and stretched his arms into the air. Grabbing a cigarette, he lit it as soon as it touched his lips and stared down at the girl as she also got up from the grass. The two of them had been relaxing not too far from the capital in one of their favorite spots.

She sure has grown up. Hah, who would have guessed I would have raised someone and become a Magic Knight captain. He thought fondly.

"Let's get going Sua, we might have some interesting contenders this year!" Yami laughed out, clearly excited as well as uninterested with dealing with a snobby royalty and nobles.

"Hopefully the Black Bulls will get some people this year, your standards are pretty high after all." She replied, amused at the older man's behavior.

Third Person POV

The Magic Knights entrance exam venue was filled to the brim with contestants, in which the majority of the population belonged to those of high nobility. The air was thick with tension as people of all ages could not contain their nervousness.

"Phew...I'm getting nervous." Someone noted to themselves.

"Owww! What the heck is going on with these birds?" Another question.

"They're the famous anti-birds of the exam venue. The less magic power you have, the more they peck at you."

Contestants were surrounded by quite a few birds as they attempted to swat them away, but all of their attention was slowly drawn to one boy who seemed to have no presence of birds near him.

"Hey, look at him! Not a single bird is going near him!"

"Oh! It's him! The one from the boonies..."

"...Who was chosen by the four-leaf grimoire."

"Four-leaf clover?!"

All of the contestants gossiped around him as the boy with messy black hair and piercing golden eyes simply stared on, not caring one single bit about anybody else.

Suddenly, another young boy started to approach him as he stomped forward.

"Heh heh heh. One of us is going to become the Wizard King. Our legend starts here, Yuno!" The boy had exclaimed, messy white hair and bright green eyes full of ambition as he was getting pecked from all angles by anti-birds.

"What?"

"Become the Wizard King?!"

"I'll show you the results of my six months of training...OWWW!" He screamed after making his remarks, just now noting all of the birds following him.

"ARGHHHHH! WHAT'S UP WITH THESE FREAKING BIRDS?!"

As he ran around trying to escape the birds, the surrounding people started to laugh at him. Clearly noting the amount of birds the boy had following him, it was obvious that he had little mana, but people were questioning if he had any to begin with.

The atmosphere seemed to lighten up for everybody else as they laughed at the poor peasant running around, clearly finding amusement in someone being worse than them in both status and magic power.

The boy continuously ran around, eventually running face first into a much larger man's elbow as all of the birds seemed to have fled immediately in his presence.

His eyes glimmered as he looked up to his savior, realizing that all of the birds were finally gone.

"Oh, sorry for bumping into you." He apologized, clearly happy with all of the annoyances gone as the other man slowly turned towards him.
