Delilah Lavigne

"Mom?"

She turns around at my voice and cups her mouth, "Delilah? Is that really you?" She looks me up and down, taking in my appearance.

I slowly nod in shock, "Yeah it's me."

Tears start to fill her eyes, "My baby I missed you so much, come give your momma a hug." She pulls me in and hugs me tightly as my hands are just frozen by my sides.

She pulls away and holds my face in her hands, "How are you? Your father and I have been worried sick about you and your whereabouts."

I immediately cringe at her mentioning my father, "I'm good, yeah. W-What are you doing here? You live three hours away." I see Jade creep up behind me, not knowing what's going on.

"We moved here a couple months ago! Your fathers job relocated him. It has to be fate running into you here. I prayed to god every morning and night that we would find you again."

Remember when I said my parents were religious? Well I wasn't joking.

I turn around to Jade and point to my mom, "Jade uh, this is my mom. Mom this is Jade, my friend."

My mom looks at Jade with disgust because of how she's dressed but hesitantly holds out her hand, "Nice to meet you."

Jade notices the look and furrows her eyebrows, "Yeah, same here."

"Delilah, you should come home. See your old man so he knows you're okay. I can take you there right now."

My eyes widen, "I can't." I rush out, "Sorry, I just have to take Jade home. Another time though, yeah?"

Her face drops, "O-Okay. Well can I have your number? We tried contacting you with the number we had for you a thousand times but you never answered."

"Yeah uh, I got a new phone after I left." I take her phone and type my number in it and when I hand it back to her I know I made a mistake by doing that.

"Alright let's go." I tell Jade and she walks out of the cafe. I turn to my mom and she rubs my shoulder, "I missed you so much, I'm glad I finally have you back." She hugs me tightly again and this time I hug her back while putting on a fake smile.

I say goodbye and join Jade at my car, "What the shit was that?" She asks, opening the car door.

"That was so fucking weird. I haven't seen my mom in over three years." I put my face in my hands and sigh.

"Are you okay? You seemed really off when you were talking to her."

I push my hair out of my face, "I'm good, she's not the type of person you get excited over when you see her."

"Yeah well by the look she gave me I can see that." She arches her eyebrows and tilts her head at the obvious.

I laugh, "Sorry about that, she's very religious and hates tattoos and clothing that don't look like they came from old navy."

She laughs too, "Don't worry about it."

I pull out of the parking lot and get out of there as fast as I can, heading in the direction of Jade's apartment.
