Everywhere was silent, the maids were all shaken at the fact that someone got shot. Some peed their uniforms, but, no one dared speak a word.
To the guards and board members, this was no new thing for them. They had seen this man, murder people several times right in front of them.
"Please, Mr Richard, I beg of you. Let me take my wife with me to the hospital. I don't want her to die, please" Matthew begged hysterically.
"Oh? You can cry? And beg?" He scoffed. "Hope you now know how my daughter is feeling, but like I said earlier, this is only a tip of the iceberg Matthew." He sneered.
Matilda was lying on the floor clutched by her husband and groaning in pain.
"Matthew, w–what di–d you do?" She gasped for air. She was losing a lot of blood but it seems like no one cared.
"Mr Anderson" he gestured to the lawyer.
"Please, you have to help me. I don't want my wife to die. Please"
"Ah, if you move, you die." He faced the lawyer. "You know I like you a lot Mr Anderson. But, if you disobey me, I won't be hesitant to put a bullet in that head of yours. And, I would trend lightly in your case as I am not in a very good mood right now."
The lawyer stepped back some more and gave Matthew a sympathetic look. He really wanted to help, but, it was not in his power to do so.
That was the same reason he kept asking Matthew about his decision. But, he was so blind to actually see that he was giving him hint to back down.
Guess, greed had a mind of its own.
"Tsk, tsk,oh, poor Matilda" he squatted beside her.
"I am really sorry about this, honest. I hate to see a beauty die. But, it was never my fault, you can always blame your husband for this" he tucked her hair behind her ear.
She glared at him.
"You see, despite this situation you still have enough strength to be tough" he laughed darkly. " Unlike your pathetic husband here. Shame, I really liked you."
"Mr Richard, please. If she stays here any longer, she might die." He pleaded.
"Hah, how kind of you to remember my name to the extent you used it twice." he sneered.
He walked towards his daughter who was still crying, and turned deaf to all of Matthew's pleas.
"Baby" be called softly. "Are you alright?" He pulled her to his arms hugging her.
"D–dad" she choked on her tears.
"There, there, it is all right." He cooed. "Daddy is here, you can tell him what you want. Has daddy ever failed to keep his promise?"
She looked up at him, with tears in her eyes. "No"
He felt a pang in his heart seeing his daughter like this. 'you fucking bastard.'
He looked at Matthew and was ready to put a bullet in his head. But, his actions were cut short by his daughter's short smile.
"You see, daddy never failed. Now, stop crying. I promise to make him pay for hurting you."
She cleaned her eyes and looked at him. She still had some tears in her eyes. So, he used his thumb to wipe those tears away.
He cupped her cheeks with his hands and kissed her forehead. "Daddy will make him pay. I promise."
