Softness and warmth. That was the first thing I felt. I have no idea where I am. I don't even know if I'm dead or not. I could feel the caress of the soft breeze on my wings. I began to hear the sounds around me, first hearing birds and other creatures, then trees as they moved in the wind. Then I noticed a conversation:
- Seth let me in, I don't understand what's wrong with me not going in. You know you can trust me. - a female voice said with a slight rage.
- I'm not going to let you in on anything you do. Yes, I trusted you, but not amymore. I can't do what you ask for. She is too important for me to get her in any danger. I also know about you that you have a hard time keeping secrets. - a male voice responded
I heard the woman's disappointed footsteps as she left, her legs almost slamming into the wooden planks.
The man, I think, Seth's voice was amazingly calm and deep. I heard him approaching me and sitting down to something close to me. The voices came from behind me so I gathered my courage to open my eyes. There was a beautiful forest bamboo wall in front of me, just above me was a window, from where the breeze could come. I moved my wings, right after I heard movements behind me. The stranger noticed as I began to wake up. He sat in silence and felt his gaze on me. Suddenly I remembered what Seth said "She's too important to me" Why did he says that? I don't even know any Seth. After a few minutes of motionless lying down, I searched for my injury with one hand, he took care of it, but still slightly painfull.
- I tied you up, you were badly injured then. - he said in a calm voice.
I would have curiously turned around, but I wasn't ready for it yet so I thought I would sit up. I turned on my back and looked at the ceiling. With my wings and hands, I was almost halfway there to sit up when Seth suddenly got up from his chair and grabbed my shoulder.
- Don't torture yourself, you'll only tear the wound if you force it. - Relax, no one can hurt you here. - he said as I looked at him from his sudden movement. He totally looked like a human kind. He had long dark brown hair, not too big a beard and golden eyes. I didn't even notice at first, but there was a big scar on his face, it passed through his right eye. I didn't know what to react to, so I lay back as he asked. Luckily, the soaring wounds heal quickly, so maybe I get better by tomorrow. I smiled at that thought. I saw it look out to Seth, too.
- What are you so happy about? - he asked with a little mockery in his voice.
- I was thinking about the speed of my recovery, I will be able to walk by tomorrow. - I said contentedly.
I heard giggles from him. Then he got up and left the house. I looked at him in amazement. Now I can look around comfortably here. The house consisted of only one room, it was circular, but in the middle the branch of a tree interrupted its unity. As I looked out the window, from here on the bed, I could only see the foliage of trees. We can be high because they had Oriya branches. I noticed that there is only one bed in the house on which I lie. Where did Seth sleep at night? Reminds me of the evening, what could Frigg think? I hope he wasn't caught, I'm worried if he got in trouble, that would be really, really bad. How much time has elapsed since then? I haven't been here in days, have I? There are a lot of questions in me, but I can't answer that. I would ask Seth, but I don't know how much he would bear my many questions.
It might have been a couple of hours when I heard footsteps, I looked halfway through the window and saw Seth, reassured that he wasn't another stranger. Before turning around the house door half looked around, I think no one suspicious should follow. He placed a tray of food on the chair and then covered the windows. I didn't understand why he kept it so secretive, maybe they didn't like my breed here?
He glanced at the tray and had a pile of fruit on it. I know a couple of them, but there are many I haven't seen anything like before. There was a brilliant one that I really liked. I sat up and just watched them.
- Don't ask yourself to eat. - he said impatiently.
It was a very uncomfortable feeling that only I was eating so I took one more and threw it at him.
- I don't want you to just watch me eat.
- Thank you. - he said with a hidden smile on his face.
I ate 2 or 3 pieces, each was new and delicious.
- Where are we?
- Plenty, - he said, - in the ancient oaks.
Because of the sudden surprise, I stopped eating, I remembered what happened then.
- Many of us fled here. - he added
Refugees? From what? Because of the empire? I raised my eyebrows questioningly. Seth noticed this and continued:
- The empire is preparing for something, but the soldiers were there in Sregham, the little town. - Some have been here for a very long time and keep coming here. We are all different, but no one is human here.
I looked at this in amazement because he was in the form of a spit man. What kind of magical power he has then?
- Why did you keep it a secret that I was here?
He was a little embarrassed, looking for words on what to say. He closed his mouth and closed his eyes. He spoke a few moments later, but in my head.
"You're important to me, I don't want to offend you, but I've been defending you from people like the soldiers from Sregham for a while. Then it didn't work out. It's my fault you got hurt."
He opened his eyes and saw his face flush, surely he also noticed this so he turned away. I smiled at how cute he was trying to cover his feelings. After all, he's showing himself to be tough, but I already feel like that's not the case.
- Relax now, you need it. - he said as he left the house.
I thought about what he said and then I remembered my mother. She must be in a huge worry now. Oh Gods. My poor mom. I hope Frig doesn't heroy somewhere, he used to be a habit, he puts himself in danger many times for nothing. Frig loved me more than I did. Cute, kind and caring, but the character of our species is incompatible. The soarers are rebellious, combative, terribly stubborn, dreamy and curious. Frig species is calm, realistic, peaceful. They are the complete opposite.
I was tired, I don't know why, but I was exhausted. I closed my eyes but heard footsteps again. I lay on my back so I looked out the window. It was almost completely dark by now, but I recognized him. He entered and began to take off his coat and then his top. He had a couple of scars on his back and he is very muscular. He turned and then lay down on the floor next to the bed. I felt really bad about it, you shouldn't be lying there just because of me. I turned to him, saw that I was awake and then said:
- You should rest, why are you still up?
- I was wondering when you're coming and where you're going to sleep. - I don't want you to sleep there because of me. - I said
I pulled halfway up the wall, signaling him to lie still there, since we could both fit there. Even so, I saw his red face in the twilight, trying to cover his smile again with little success. He came over and lay down next to me on the bed I put a pillow between us and the blanket too. I had a strange feeling. I didn't feel this for Frig. Here I lie with an almost complete stranger in a bed, wounded and feeling my face flush. We looked at each other for minutes, the beautiful golden eyes enchanted me. It was the last thing I saw that day, I felt like I was sleeping with a smile on my face.
