When Evelyn and Tyde reach the Cathedral of Earth, they have no time to admire the scenery. Outside the cathedral stands a huge creature formed from Rock, about 15 feet tall. Its eyes are nothing but holes in the rock, illuminated by a green energy. It has ivy growing all over it, and cracks are forming in places. Its arms hang down below its waist and its legs seem planted into the very ground it stands on.
"Tyde... what the hell is that thing?" Evelyn asks her eyes wide with fear.
Tyde shakes his head in both fear and disappointment. "I was afraid of this..." He looks at Evelyn, "It's an earth golem, and I doubt it'll take kindly to me and you trying to enter the cathedral."
"So we have to... kill it...?" Her heart sinks at the thought, how are they meant to destroy something so huge that could probably kill them with a single swing of its arm. Tyde didn't bother answering; he could tell that she already knew the answer, as much as they both hated it.
"How do we even go about doing that...?" She asked.
"There are only two tips I can give you really, be fast, and don't die, if you make sure to do both of these, you'll be fine,"
The area outside the cathedral isn't guarded by the golem alone; there are also mages outside, training. They have a green aura about them, and almost all their spells seem to conjure some kind of strange plant that Evelyn would never dream of seeing on Earth. The plants varied from giant angry fly traps, to walking trees. All of the training is put to a halt though, when the golem is sent into a rage. Mages all over the ground scream and panic and scurry their way back inside the building where they could be safe, leaving the golem on its own in a fury. It turns out an arrow was shot at it, hitting it in one of the cracks on its arm. It picks up its huge boulder-like fist, and smashes it into the ground, which tears up the earth, and sends a shockwave straight into the bushes where Tyde and Evelyn hide. The blast sends them flying backwards. Evelyn loses grip of her bow and it gets launched into the tree tops. Their backs are slammed on the trunk of a tree, paralysing them for a second, but shortly afterwards, they spring to there feet, trying to keep out of the way of the golem.
"Evelyn, go grab your bow, I'll keep him off you!"
"Okay... be careful!"
Evelyn scans the leaves at the top of nearby trees. Eventually, it catches her eye, in one of the trees near the bush, which is now torn out of the ground, where she once hid. She climbs up the tree, which luckily has plenty of branches for support, with her one good arm; the other was already aching after slamming her back into the tree. She thinks back to her childhood days; "I'm glad I was good at this when I was a kid!" When she thinks she's in reach of her weapon, she extends her arm out, trying to grasp it. She manages to grab a hold of it, but as she does, the branch she's stood on gives way underneath her, and drops her right in front of the golem.
"Evelyn!" yells Tyde.
The golem holds its arm up high, getting ready to smack it down onto her. Luckily, just in time, Tyde jumps in front and pushes her out of the way. Evelyn turns around; "Tyde! What do you think your doing?" she asks but as she looks closer, he's actually blocking its attack with a field of water.
"Evelyn, aim for the cracks, that's its weak spot!"
She takes out her sword and runs up to its leg. She holds up her cutlass and plunges it into one of the cracks in its leg. It lets out a roar of agony, leaving Tyde alone.
"Let's finish this, Evelyn..." he says, panting like a tired dog.
The giant swings its fist around in an attempt to hit them both. Tyde holds out his hand and slows it down with a blast of water soaking into its surface. Evelyn jumps onto its arm, cutlass still ready to strike. Tyde manages to avoid its attack and Evelyn manages to leap onto its back. Just as she expected, there's a crack in the back of its head. It begins to shake vigorously in attempt to get her off. She tries to stab the tiny fissure but misses barely.
"Tyde, try to calm it down!"
"What?" He chokes at the impossible task.
"Just make it stay still!"
When he looks up, its fist is almost on top of him. His lightning fast reflexes send his hands into the air and the field of water is raised again and the crash from its fist hitting the field causes Evelyn to slide down its back, but she manages to hold onto its shoulder with the tips of her fingers. She climbs back up to sit on it and finally manages to dig the sword into the crack, as for down as it will go. She jumps down to the ground and rolls out of the way.
Rocks crumble away from the back of the golems head. It begins to drop, beginning with its arms followed by its legs and ending with leaving a crater in the ground from its stone body. Tyde and Evelyn stare in awe for a moment before a light swallows up the rubble which was once a monstrous guardian and leaving nothing but the crater that it left from dropping dead.
"You okay?" Tyde asks.
"Shut the hell up! Are you okay?"
He laughs, "Yeah, I'm good."
