“You guys have a van as your get away vehicle?” Kato spoke out of the silence.
“Yeah...,” Jim sighed, “It’s the only car we could afford working at Buca Di Beppo. We get paid minimum wage to work 9 to 5 and be superheroes.”
“That’s stupid. Is that why you live here as well? Wait, if you guys are broke, what the (frick) was in the suitcase full of ransom money?!” Kato looked up from the napkin they were fiddling with.
“Sadly yes. With how expensive houses are in Illinois, it was the only place we could afford,” Jim said, looking down at the ground disappointed. He brought his eye back up to Kato’s. “Secondly,” he continued with a cheeky smile, “Monopoly moolah.” Suddenly, Jim got a text. “They’re there.”
The two people looked up at the monitors in front of them. The boys had turned on their cameras and were heading out of the van. Once they had made it out of the vehicle, they turned simultaneously in one direction.
“It seems that they’ve found them,” Jim stated as a microwave alarm rang. “Popcorn?”
Kato gave him an incredulous look. “Is this some sort of game to you?”
Jim raised his hands in defense as he explained himself. “Hold on! Technically, yes. It is. However! This is just a trial for the two boys disguised as an actual hostage situation. I want to know how they’ll act in a dangerous environment with little planning. I also think it’d be kinda funny to see their asses get kicked.”
“Hilarious,” Kato replied blankly as Jim went to fetch the popcorn. Their expression shifted to a puzzled one. “Wait, so your other two agents aren’t in trouble?” they asked when he returned.
“Oh, not at all,” Jim replied dismissively. “They’re like a power duo. I’m more worried that they might take the trial a bit far, which is why Harri and Klark will be on standby.”
Kato turned back to the screen just in time to see Klark get stabbed. They aggressively pointed at the tv.
“WHAT THE (frick) WAS THAT?!” They nearly screamed.
“Acting.” Jim shrugged as he tried to toss a piece of popcorn in his mouth. He missed, made a face, and then turned to Kato, leaving the sad, neglected part of popcorn on the floor.
“Sekulur stabbed Klark with one of those fake retractable knives, so don’t worry. Carley has the actual knives,” he explained nonchalantly.
“CARLEY HAS WHAT?!”
