"Oh, I can't believe my two babies are going off to the junior Olympics!"

the Portman mother, Sandra, squealed as she hugged her two children, "you have dropped off your suitcases right?". The two siblings, Dean and Ryleigh, cringed.

"We're not babies mom!" Dean protested, "And it's not really Olympic level." Ryleigh side-eyed her brother and, although she knew nobody asked, replied, "Actually, it's an international competition, that's full of sports. The only difference is that kids compete instead of adults. And yes we have dropped off the suitcases."

Dean huffed and rolled his eyes, but his father caught him doing so. "Dean Michael Portman, I hope that you didn't roll your eyes at your sister." He immediately shook his head no and Ryleigh smirked at his awkward face.

"Oh dear, I almost forgot. Dean, Ryleigh, your father and I bought some gifts before you go and play your hockey hearts out!" Her excited expression shined brighter as she brought out two identical blue, square boxes with red ribbons holding it together. The two siblings took the boxes and unwrapped it quickly, taking out the item inside and holding it up to see.

"So... what do you think?!" the siblings' mother asked.

The two looked at the gift for longer. The gifts were two new jerseys. Dean's was blue and black, with Portman and the number 21 under it while Ryleigh's was blue and purple with Portman as well but the number 25 under the name. Dean and Ryleigh had huge smiles on their faces and went to hug their parents for the new jerseys.

They let go after a few moments and looked at their flight time.

"We should be going now. I'm really gonna miss you guys." Ryleigh told her parents, Dean behind her agreeing. "We're going to miss the both of you as well honey," their mother replied, "But do make us proud and play your hardest." their father added. The two siblings nodded and grabbed their backpacks and walked to the gates, stopping at the front of them to wave goodbye.

Finally getting on the plane after a long two hours of security checks and waiting, the Portman siblings have made it to the plane and are sitting in their seats waiting for the plane to take off.

Dean took out his walkman and put on his mixtape titled, 'Dean's Cool Mixtape' when Ryleigh looked up at him and asked if she could listen as well. He shook his head and answered, "Rye, these things can't extend to let you listen. Didn't you bring a book, how 'bout you read that instead?"  And so she did. She took out her copy of Stephen King's The Body and started reading.

Ryleigh was a few pages in when the captain's speakers came on and the cabin crew went through all the safety briefings. She had to pull Dean's headphones when the cabin crew was walking around to check seat belts which annoyed Dean quite a bit, but after that fiasco, the plane was soon in the air and heading to Minnesota.

Ryleigh looked out of the window on her right and looked down at the Chicago getting smaller and further away. She decided to have a nap, thinking that it would make the flight go faster, her mother always said that at least. She laid her head on the nearest still surface she could find, which so happened to be her brother's shoulder. She was surprised he didn't shrug her off and instead let her sleep peacefully, he just was bobbing his head along to the music in his walkman.

"Rye wake up."

Ryleigh slowly opened her eyes when she heard Dean, "Come one Rye, we've landed in Minnesota. Get up." She sat up in her plane seat and saw that they had indeed landed in an airport. She takes off her seatbelt, takes her backpack and walks with Dean, off the plane.

Now the two were officially in Minnesota. With their luggage found and security checks done, they had to find their driver to the ice rink.

It took a few minutes, but they found him. He didn't look like one of those FBI agent bodyguards that they saw in movies with sunglasses, a black suit and insanely tall. He was in a suit, but it was blue and he was around the same height as Dean. The man locked eyes with the two siblings walking over to him and waved them over.

"Dean and Ryleigh Portman, am I correct?" they nodded, "Splendid, just call me Mr. Jenkins! Let's get going now, got to get you two ready for meeting your new team! Very exciting right?" they both nodded again and walked with him towards... a limousine? Dean and Ryleigh looked at each other with excitement and Mr Jenkins definitely noticed, "Ah, you two looking at the limo? Well, you better get used to it, you are two of the best junior hockey players in the country. Now hop in! Time's a-wastin'!" They were definitely going to enjoy this.

A/N - First chapter. Kind of short but does give you an introduction to Dean and especially Ryleigh. I have some ideas for Ryleigh and she's gonna be having a little friend group when she reaches Minnesota. Also, I know it's really early into the book but I am thinking of changing the face claim for Ryleigh because I literally cannot find any videos or scenepacks for Haley Pullos. So if you find any fancasts please recommend any and if I find any myself I'll mention it on my conversation board.
