Thana fell to her knees. That wasn't very appropriate for a queen. Tears were streaming down her cheeks. She was sobbing desperately. She covered her face with her hand.
"What have I done?" whimpered she, her face cringing in pain. "Khalida. Khalida!" cried she, snd staggering to her feet, she ran out into the rain, towards the main gate.
I lost her, she thought, every part of her in agony. I killed her. She's gone, and it's my fault. Thana cried even harder. I am a monster. Khalida!!
The queen was shaken up right to her roots. She couldn't believe she ordered the guard to kill her sister. It was absurd and preposterous.
Thana somehow managed to find Khalida's dead body in the Forest. The queen's tears fell on the princess's face. But you cannot wake the dead. Khalida will be lost forever.
Thana lay there for long hours, hugging her sister's body, shaken by its coldness. Soon you couldn't even tell the tears on her face from the raindrops.
When the sky suddenly brightened and the rainstorm stopped, a leaf cracked somewhere behind the queen's back. She didn't turn around. All she wanted then was to die, to join Khalida. A sound of a blade being pulled out of its sheath broke the silence. The steps came closer. A sword was pressed to Thana's neck. She opened her eyes. Ellisar stood before her, malice and cool rage sparkling in his eyes. His gaze was dark and dreary.
"How could you, you ugly monster?" spat her into Thana's dull face. "I can't believe you are the queen."
"I know. Neither can I," whispered the queen in return. "I'm so sorry. Please. I beg you. Kill me."
Ellisar looked at her in surprise.
"I can't stand this anymore. I won't leave to see the nightfall," wept Thana. Ellisar put away his sword and looked at his queen with narrowed eyes.
"Please, whoever you are, spare my time," begged she now. Ellisar's gaze traveled to the floor.
"I am not a murderer like you," murmured he. A tear rolled from the queen's eye. "Your sister would have liked to tell you this. You were going to be an aunt." It was Thana's turn now to be surprised. She moaned.
"You..?" she whispered slowly. Ellisar didn't meet her gaze.
"It's over now," said he instead, turned around, and slowly walked away. The queen was alone yet again.
