"Let's get married," Jack said confidently as he entered his apartment, where his fiancé was sitting on the couch, scrolling through Netflix.
"We are getting married, remember?" Beth asked with a smile, putting the remote down.
"No, now. We don't need to plan a big wedding. What's the point? Barely anyone we care about would show up. Let's just elope."
"You're crazy," she laughed, shaking her head. "We've gotta hold off and plan a wedding."
"But why? We've loved each other for years; why wait? We can elope this weekend."
"I don't even have a dress."
"So go buy one. I'm tired of waiting. I'm tired of hearing what other people think. I just want to be with you."
"My mom will kill me if I get married without her there."
"She doesn't even want you to get married Beth. C'mon, do this for you, for us."
Beth got up from the couch and wrapped her arms around Jack's neck.
"Maybe it would be nice."
Jack kissed her lips and then pressed his forehead against hers.
"You tell me when and where and I'll make it work."
Like most girls, Beth had dreamed of her fairytale wedding for years, of the day when her father would walk her, his only daughter, down the aisle, where she would stand in front of everyone who meant anything to her and marry the man she loved. However, she had long ago learned that things with Jack would never be quite like her fairytales, and that might just have to be okay.
"Whitehall, next Saturday."
"Consider it done," Jack said with a smile, kissing his fiancé again.
Just a few weeks ago, Beth had been certain that in several months, she would be engaged to her long-time boyfriend. In a year, she would become a bride at a perfectly-planned wedding with her parents there. She would become a lawyer and then a mother. Her life was perfectly planned out for her, and in a short time, Jack had changed all of that. Now, she was left to decide if the man she had spent the majority of her life loving was enough.
