Watching her mom walk away she decided to make pancakes. Mixing the pancake flour, adding the water, and watching it all flow and mix together. Throwing in a couple chocolate chips knowing that her sister loves them she poured the batter onto the pan. Staring as it sizzles and fries on the pan she gets lost deep in her thoughts.
It was a memory or a flash back, her sitting and watching them make pancakes, smearing the batter on each other's faces giggling and laughing. It was the smell that always made her remember, Rosie was far too little, but they always had pancake breakfasts on Saturday's. It was a good memory that she remembered, and maybe that's why she did not mind making pancakes so often when Rosie asked her too.
Seeing that the pancake was ready to be flipped she found a spatula and flipped it. In the meantime, she started up their ancient espresso machine. Grabbing a cup she clicked the button for two shots, soon the smell of coffee filled the air. Inhaling it she smiled, this was one of the smells she really loved, one of her top fave. Clicking the button to make another two shots she grabbed the milk, poured it in a cup, added a splash of half and half and just a tad of caramel flavor just enough but not enough to make it too sweet. She went to take that pancake off and pour on a new one, then steamed up the milk until it was almost boiling but not just quite. Grabbing a to go mug, then flipping the pancake, she poured first the espresso shots then the steamed milk on top. Adding a caramel drizzle, she began to make another cup of coffee for her mother. She finished making the pancakes and set two up on a plate drowning them in butter and maple syrup just like Rosie liked it. Grabbing two more and grabbing the second cup of coffee she quietly walked into her mother's room and set it on her nightstand. Walking out she saw Rosie walking up the stairs,
"Is that pancakes?" she asked squealing in delight. "
Yes, now shhh mom is resting, she had a long night at work. Hurry up and eat so we don't miss the bus."
Watching her quickly shove the food in her mouth Alex sipped some coffee then added a ton of whipped cream on top, even pouring some into her mouth.
"I want some."
Rosie whined, sighing Alex put some on top of her pancakes.
