A timeskip, a conversation with the dead, and a murderer

I was lucky enough for Ekko to find me and we lived together for about 3 years. But, he didn’t like the way I coped, the way I changed.

~One year after~

The rocks that I was under left me barely able to walk, a bandage wrapped up my torso and neck and down my right arm. My left leg bandaged as well. A cut down my face starting at the top, hitting my cheekbone on the right side. I lost hearing in my left ear. That day, I should’ve died. I still don’t know why I didn’t when everyone else did. Vander, Claggor, Mylo, and Vi.

There are rumours that she is still alive. I don’t believe them. If she was still alive she would’ve come back for me. She wouldn’t have left me alone.

But she left Powder alone, what makes you think you're so special?

Shut up. You don’t know what you’re talking about. Of course she wouldn’t leave me. She loved me.

Did she?

Stop it. She said so herself.

Are you remembering things right?

Yes. She belonged to me. She still does.

If she was dead, why isn't she the one haunting you instead of me?

Haunting me? Why would she haunt me? We were in love.

I loved you. You were my sister.

But you still left.

I stayed by you even in death.

Shut up.

She left you. She never loved you.

I said shut up.

She hated you. She was probably happy you died.

Stop it. Stop it!

She left you.

Stop.

She never loved you.

STOP.

SHE LEFT YOU. SHE NEVER LOVED YOU.

“I SAID STOP!!!!” I threw my knife at the sound, holding my ears and screaming.

“Sunny. Sunny! SUNNY!!!” Someone yelled as I started being shook back into reality. My breathing calmed and I could see clearly. I was crouched down in the centre of a room. The room had no furniture and was almost completely bare, save for the post directly to my right. The person who had shook me awake was still holding on to me and breathing heavily. It was Ekko.

“Ekko? I’m sorry, I don’t know what came over me.”

He looked at me and sighed.

“You had another episode. One of these days, I will get you to take your meds. And you’ll be better.”

I shook his arms off me as I stood.

“I don’t want to be better, it’s the only way I can see him.”

“But seeing him hurts you.” Ekko tried to reason.

“Seeing him helps me remember my mission.”

“We all want to defeat Silco, but harming yourself is not the way to do it.”

I scoffed.

“I don’t want to just ‘defeat’ Silco, I want to kill him, rip his precious eye from its socket then feed it to him. He needs to suffer.” I said through gritted teeth.

Ekko looked at me with surprise.

“Revenge is not the way to go.”

“He killed my brother and the girl I loved! Revenge is the only option left.”

“Technically Powder killed your brother and we never found Vi’s body, how are you so sure she’s dead?”

“Because what is false hope but a poison for the naive. And Jinx is nothing other than another one of Silco’s lackeys now. It’s the same.” I spat as I walked away, leaving Ekko alone in the empty room.

~two years later~

I have been training with a katana I bought at one of the night markets. I will have my revenge.

I go out at night and hunt people who have business with Silco.

I slipped back in through a window after having a talk with some silco lackeys. Whatever time it was, it was late. I promised Ekko I would stop, but I can't let Silco free.

I won't. I refuse.

As I fully stepped into my room, I spit out the teeth that were sacrificed today. I sat down, wrapping my new wounds and a light turned on behind me.

"Ekko, I can explain." I started.

"You don't need to explain. I'm not blind, goddammit. You just need to stop. You're being reckless."

"I'm not being reckless. I'm actually doing something. Unlike you, this 'peace force' you're trying so hard for, it's not gonna fucking happen." I spat.

"At least we don't kill!"

"I'm making progress!" I stood.

"You're becoming a murderer!"

"Everyone I kill has it coming!"

"You attacked Powder today!!"

"Jinx." I turned to him, death staring him.

"Her name is Powder." He replied through gritted teeth.

"Powder's gone, Ekko. So should your crush on her."

"It's not a crush!" He blushed. This is going to hurt you, trust me.

"You keep trying to save her. She can't be saved!" I exclaimed.

"You are doing the same thing she is!"

I stopped dead in my tracks.

"Did you just compare me to that?" I asked, venom lacing my voice.

"If Powder is gone, you are no better! You have episodes. You kill people, needlessly! Why can't you understand, you are becoming the villain!" He poked his finger into my chest.

Anger overwhelmed me.

You are nothing.

You are the villain.

You are a killer.

You are Jinx.

"NO!" I yelled as I threw him across the room.

He hit the wall with a grunt.

"Get out." He whispered.

"What?"

"Get. Out. You're not welcome here anymore!" He raised his voice as he stood.

"I- you're all I have left! You can't leave me, too!" I cried.
