Calix's POV

"Put the warriors on standby," dad said to Mason, his gamma, who nodded in response. He continued, "they might be targetting Calix, knowing he found his mate already and would soon be taking over."

"Please have someone guard Micah," I said, asking dad.

How could I let this happen? How could I put the love of my life in danger just because of being my mate?

"We'll protect her, just like what we always do," Brion said, my wolf. I can feel how protective he is of our mate as well.

"I know," I responded. "It's just that something's off. Have you smelled their scent? It isn't of a rogue. And it's a bit familiar. I just can't point it out."

"Whatever happens, we'll protect mate," he said.

"Dad," I continued, looking at him. "They might come after her. They've seen her with me. Micah said there was someone watching us from behind a tree."

"Don't worry, son," he said, reassuring me. He looked back at Mason and ordered him; "One outside her window, one outside her door."

"Understood, Alpha," Mason said, nodding at dad before leaving.

"Something's off, Dad," I started as the door closed. "They don't smell like rogue."

"They must be new rogues," he concluded, leaning back on his chair. "That, or they must have someone masking their scent or changing it."

"I," I stopped, deciding not to push further. Dad must be right, they might be new rogues that's why they don't smell like one yet. "But they smell so familiar. I don't recall anyone cutting ties with us recently. There aren't, are they?"

"Last one was Samantha," he confirmed. "But it was to be with her mate and it was about five months ago. No one left the pack recently or we would have felt it."

Usually, she-wolves are the once to cut ties with her pack to move to a new one once they found their mate. That is if he belongs to a different pack. Other than that, moving families or teens who wanted to explore different packs are the ones to cut ties voluntarily but with their Alpha's knowledge. Rogues are often the ones who got kicked out of their former packs due to rule breaking. Though I've heard lot of rumours were wolves in other packs, particularly mistreated omegas, break their pack bond voluntarily without their Alpha's knowledge to escape their unfavourable life. I've never knew anyone from ours to do that as we treat everyone here like a family, no matter what the rank is.

"I'm not sitting around," I finally said, standing up and heading to open the door. With one last look at my dad, I said, "I'll go to Micah's, just to be sure."

"No marking yet," he smirked, reminding me of what I promised my mom once I found my mate. "Wait till your Alpha ceremony."

"I know," I chuckled. "See you tomorrow, dad."

I closed the door and ran upstairs. I stopped at Micah's door, acknowledging Ryker who was assigned as her guard by the door, before knocking.

"Come in," she called.

I opened the door, inhaling her scent that masked her whole room.

"Calix!"

She jumped unto me, surprising me.I easily caught her as she wrapped her legs on my waist. My c*** hardened as I felt her lower part near it, with my hands on her ass supporting her weight.

"Hey, princess," I smirked, controlling myself. I closed the door with my foot. I walked us to her loveseat by the window, sitting down with her still on top of me. "You okay?"
