The votes had been counted and today was the day I found out in first hour for the morning announcements.

I was literally shaking in first hour and Jorel held my hand for comfort.

"Okay good morning everyone! Are we ready to hear who won for president?" The principal said in the speaker.

Everyone clapped and cheered. I felt like I was going to throw up.

"This was a very close one, but... Mia Alan is our student council president!" He said.

I could not believe what I just heard.

"Oohh shit. Mia beat the smart girl." Someone said.

I stood up from my desk and walked out of class. I couldn't take it in there anymore. I started crying and went straight for the bathroom until I saw Mia and her crew.

"Tough loss huh?" Mia said.

I stayed silent until they left. I slid down the wall and just cried until a teacher came in.

"Anna. Anna it's okay." She said.

"I feel so humiliated." I said.

"Let's get you some fresh air." She said.

"Is it okay if I walk with someone from my class?" I asked, sniffling.

"Yes, I can go get them. What's their name?" She asked.

"Jorel Decker. He's in Mrs. Ryan's class." I said.

The teacher nodded, going to the class as I went in the hallway. I sat down and put my head down for a bit. I couldn't believe myself. I felt crazy, humiliated, and I felt like a failure.

"Hey." Jorel said, sitting by me.

I looked up and god he looked so sad.

"I'm sorry." I said.

"Here, let's take a walk." He said.

"I'll go let your teachers know you'll be out for awhile. Your first hour teacher will keep your bags by her desk." The teacher said.

I nodded as Jorel stood me up and we took a walk.

"Oh, here. You don't want to have mascara on your face. I keep these thingies on me just in case." Jorel said, handing me a packet of a tiny makeup wipe.

I wiped my eyes, throwing the wipe away.

We walked outside and I just wanted to cry again.

"Are you okay?" Jorel asked.

"I don't know." I said, crying.

"Hey come here." He said, letting me go into his arms.

"I feel like a failure. This has all I been wanting. I swore to my dad I would be president of the school one day." I said.

"Yeah, but he's probably proud as fuck because you still ran, and you could've won if everyone didn't love Mia." He said.

"I hate myself for losing." I said.

"Baby. No. Don't say that. You need to love yourself like I do." He said.

I smiled as he kissed me.

"Chin up soldier, Mia ain't worth no tears. I'll fuck the bitch up if I have to." He said.

I smiled as we walked back to class. Second hour had just started so we got our bags from Mrs. Ryan's.

Everyone looked at me during second hour. As if I didn't already feel humiliated.

"That smart girl should've won." I heard a girl say.

I was so confused.

After all my classes I kept hearing from people that I should've won and Mia cheated by writing her name secretly on cards. Some people even reported it to the principal.

The principal got Mia to confess she was cheating too. During my last class he called me up to his office.

"Hello Anna." He said.

"Hi Mr. Raines." I said.

"So, Mia confessed that she had been cheating on the votes. So, I am happy to say you have won." He said.

"Thank you so much, this means a lot to me." I said.

"Of course. Your first meeting is on Wednesday after school." He said.

"I will not let you down." I said.

Holy shit I was so happy.
