Chapter Six
Peace and quiet.
Taking a deep breath, I closed my eyes, failing horribly to calm myself. Belle was a little worried about me throwing a vicious tantrum at our new school. A little too worried she even suggested to consider going with us at school, at least until I calmed down.
oh, I'm calm, alright... just not too approachable at the moment. I appreciate her, rather, not too logical suggestion and I think it was really thoughtful of her.
We were at school now and since we were new and only got enrolled for the winter semester, Haji told us to head directly here the very moment we set foot at the school parking lot.
"Wait, Haji. You don't have to come with us, we can handle ourselves." S said, stopping Haji on his tracks.
The look Hunter gave Haji didn't go unnoticed when Hunter remarked, "Yeah, Haji. Isn't there some place you should be? Like in college, perhaps?" His smile was so sweet it gave me chills looking at him. He had the If-I-could-just-strangle-him look on his face.
"Very funny. Now keep walking." Haji answered dismissively.
I knew something was up. Haji has been avoiding this topic since we moved to the mansion and whenever college was brought up, he'd change the topic. And every time, Hunter would be very weird about it, like he was challenging Haji to speak up.
"Haji, what's happening?" I asked, confused.
"Nothing."
"Come on, man. This is getting really old. They're gonna find out soon enough, might as well do it now." Hunter demanded, "He won't go back to college, anymore." Hunter revealed.
"Hunter!" Haji exclaimed.
"You asked for it." Hunter shrugged.
"Dude, you're off your rocker. Just go back to Belle's, pack then drive yourself back to NYU." Cole reasoned.
"Yeah, why don't you do just that, Haj? Oh wait, you can't! Because you dropped out." Hunter beamed in false enthusiasm.
"What?!" we chorused.
That, I didn't see coming. I knew something was up, but, not his one. He dropped out? He loved his school, he loved college. The endless stories he told us about how cool it was. It just doesn't seemed right. Why would he do that?
Unless...
"Why?" Caleb was the first to ask.
"I didn't drop out, okay. I filed a leave. One year." Haji explained only to be cut off by Hunter.
"And he decided to work at this academy as the deans' assistants'—"
"Hunter Kane! Enough!"
"—assistant."
When we reached the room that says 'Deans' Office' I pulled Haji away from the guys, just before he entered the room. "a word?" I asked, I just wanted to confirm what I had in mind.
"Harmony, the Dean—"
"Please?"
"Fine." He sighed. Hopefully the four wouldn't notice we were behind.
"Don't it. You'll miss being in college, you'll miss your friends, your girlfriends. Haji, you don't have to do this." I tried to reason.
"You don't have a say on this, Harm. I'm your guardian not the other way around." He said, then stormed into the room. I was left with my mouth hanging open and a sharp pain in my chest. I took me a while to compose myself and joined them inside.
