"Stop following me!" Glory snapped at the black dragon behind her. "I'm too busy to put up with you as well!"
Deathbringer gave her a wounded look. "Surely my presence brings you inner peace in the most stressful times?" He said in a mock hurt voice.
More inner laughter than peace. Glory kept her face stern however, if she wanted anything done, she couldn't let her affection for the dragon show. "I mean it." She said. "Why don't you go organize a fruit gathering party or something?"
"But no fruit we find could ever be sweeter than you." Deathbringer said smoothly.
Glory could barely keep the pink out of her scales. She raised one eyebrow skeptically. "That was so cheesy."
"Oh, you have no idea how cheesy I can be." Deathbringer said teasingly.
"Don't threaten the queen." Glory said and turned with dignity and started walking away, very aware of Deathbringer moving like a shadow behind her.
Glory swept into her throne room where she had her meetings. A green and yellow RainWing came in a minute after her and bowed. "Your Majesty, me and a few other RainWings have been concerned with the poisonous plants that have been growing around the nursery. I came to ask if you could find a solution."
Glory flicked her tail, thinking. "Use large leaves to protect your talons and pull the plants out. You can dump them in a cave somewhere."
The RainWing nodded enthusiastically and flew out of the room, barely remembering to say "Thank you, Your Majesty!" Over his shoulder.
"Oh, well done Your Majesty." Deathbringer said. "A thousand dragons couldn't rule as masterfully, as wisely, or as gloriously as you."
"Did you just say I'm glorious?" Glory raised an eyebrow at him. "Seriously?"
"Queen Glory the Glorious." Deathbringer grinned. "Has a nice ring to it."
"No, actually." Glory said. "It doesn't."
Deathbringer acted like he didn't hear her. "And her most loyal, devoted, handsome bodyguard, Deathbringer the Dashing."
"I'm not calling you that."
"But you want to." Deathbringer teased. "I can tell."
Glory let her mouth twitch into the slightest smile. "Fine. Deathbringer the Durian, please be quiet while I address another citizen."
Deathbringer made a face of surprise and mock offense, but sat quietly as he was told. Glory listened to another problem in her kingdom and gave a helpful solution. And another. And another. After a while, there was a break between citizens and Deathbringer spoke up again.
"The day's almost over. Shouldn't you be getting some rest? Relax a bit? Hang out with me?" He asked.
"No, Deathbringer the Durian, queens don't relax, nor hang out with they're durians." Glory lifted her chin a tad and sent a ripple of royal purple across her frill and wings.
"Are you going to stop calling me that?" Deathbringer laughed.
"Great moons, Deathbringer the Durian, with so many questions, you should have waited in line like everyone else." Glory teased. She stretched out her wings. "I am getting tired, though. And it does seem that the line is gone."
"I know a great place." Deathbringer said. "Follow me."
Glory stood and followed him out of the village and high up in the trees. "Usually the following is done by the bodyguard, not the queen." Glory commented as she slipped between branches. They emerged atop the wide canopy of the tree, a gentle breeze shifting the leaves in a peaceful dance. Stars dazzled above them and not even clouds separated them from the twilight sky, the last light of the sun falling below the horizon.
Glory leaned into the wind and breathed, smelling the scents of the rainforest mingle with the scents of the breeze. She noticed Deathbringer staring at her, the sunset reflecting in his black eyes. "This is a good place." Glory said. "It's beautiful."
Deathbringer nodded and leaned into her, his scales sliding across her's. Glory put a wing around him and they sat, watching the sunset together.
After a long and happy few minutes, Deathbringer kissed Glory on the cheek, sending involuntary blossoms of rose pink across her face. Glory looked at him. "You missed." She leaned over and kissed him on the lips, not caring what colour she turned.
Deathbringer grinned and wrapped one of his wings around her. "I love you, my queen."
"I love you too, Deathbringer the Dashing."
A/n: finished! Finally! Nothing can justify how long that took, I apologize. I have one more request that I'm working on and then this is going to pause. You may have noticed that requests are closed and I don't know when they'll open again. I've had a lot of difficulty keeping up with these and I want a break. I may update this without requests and just write what I want. Maybe. But until then, thank you for all the support. If you liked any of these, please don't hesitate to vote or comment, it always makes my day.
