Kinkajou zipped from tree to tree, heading toward the RainWing Village.
"Can't you keep up?" She called down to her friends. Moon, Winter, and Qibli were following her through the trees. Moon was able to keep up rather well, the SandWing and the IceWing however...
"It would be easier if it weren't so wet down here." Winter grumbled.
Qibli grinned up at Kinkajou. "Or if you two weren't invisible up there! Not everyone blends in and climbs like you two!"
Kinkajou let ripples of bright blue and yellow dance across her scales. "Better?" She called down.
Qibli smiled again. "Yes, and if you could just toss down a massive sponge, that would be great."
Kinkajou heard Winter snort and she laughed at Qibli's joke. "That isn't funny," Winter said. "Why do you always laugh?"
"I laugh at all of Qibli's jokes because all of Qibli's jokes are funny, Igloo-face!" Kinkajou said to the muddy IceWing.
Now Qibli started laughing. "Thanks Kink! Maybe you should give Winter lessons!"
Kink. Kinkajou liked the nickname. She liked it even more when Qibli said it. It sounded sweet and cheerful, but not in a patronizing way. It made her sound capable, and not helpless at all. Kinkajou liked it.
"Hurry up," Moon called back to them. "If we want to get there before sun high, we need to move quickly."
Winter and Qibli had caught up a bit and they flew awkwardly onto the lower tree branches. Winter clung to the trunk like he was being dangled over a cliff, but instead of an abyss below him, it was the muddy forest floor. Qibli balanced with difficulty on the branch next to Kinkajou. "Hi," he said, grinning, then nearly fell off the branch.
Kinkajou grinned back and held his tail with her's. "Don't fall."
Moon watched them with amusement. "Are we going to the RainWing Village or not?"
"Of course we are." Qibli said. "We'll be there before you can say 'scarab beetles'"
Moon didn't look convinced.
The group travelled through the forest for another ten minutes before Kinkajou saw the village. "We're here!" She cried happily. She shot forwards and landed in a swirl of pink on the wooden platform.
Several RainWings gave her curious looks as Kinkajou waited for the others. Moon landed quietly next to her and Winter landed grumpily, muttering about mud insects. Qibli gazed around at the colourful village, full of flowers and fruit and RainWings. "Wow." He breathed.
Kinkajou bounced towards a large fruit pile. She picked a mango and opened it expertly, slicing with sharp claws. She popped a slice into her mouth and relished the sweet taste. She offered a piece to Qibli.
"Sure! Trying new things never hurt anyone." Qibli said.
Winter snorted.
Qibli took a bite and his eyebrows jumped. "That's not bad." He said and finished the slice.
"I'll say. Mango is delicious!" Kinkajou ate another slice and gave him another.
A yellow and green RainWing trotted over to them, curiosity in his expression. "What are you guys doing here?" He asked.
"We came to visit Queen Glory." Moon said. "Where is she?"
The RainWing lead Moon, Winter, and Qibli away to another platform.
Kinkajou was disappointed to see the SandWing go, but she shook it off. She yawned and guessed it was almost suntime. She took a few bananas and flew up to her favourite sleeping spot.
A swinging leaf hammock with the tree canopy overhead. Hibiscus flowers decorated the area in beautiful hues of pink and yellow. Kinkajou ate the bananas, curled up, and fell asleep, the warm sun falling gently on her scales.

Qibli yawned. Moon was talking happily with Queen Glory and Winter was standing off to himself, inspecting a patch of tropical flowers. He looked around and realized Kinkajou wasn't with them. He wondered where the pretty RainWing had gone, until he guessed it was suntime. No other RainWings were around.
He tapped Moon on her shoulder. "I'm going to look around for a bit. I'll see you later." Moon nodded and turned back to Glory.
Qibli trotted away, looking for Kinkajou. It took awhile, flying around and peering into hammocks and canopies. Eventually Qibli recognized the sleeping RainWing. She stirred, probably hearing his clumsy noise.
"Hello?" Kinkajou said blearily. "Qibli?"
"Sorry, did I wake you up?" Qibli asked.
"No," Kinkajou said. "I've been awake for hours." She sat up a bit, scooching over to make room in the hammock. "Wanna come in?"
Qibli landed into the hammock, bouncing it up and down.
"Don't throw us out!" Kinkajou gripped the hammock, curling her tail around Qibli's arm. He tensed at her touch and Kinkajou blushed, pulling her tail back. They sat quietly for a moment.
Qibli tried breaking the silence. "Is this your favourite spot?"
"Yes." Kinkajou brightened at the change of subject, turning a delicate pink. "It's warm in the sun and fruit grows around here." She stretched out and plucked a red fruit from a nearby branch. She took a happy bite, getting red juice on her face. Qibli grinned.
He admired the bubbly RainWing for many reasons. She had a kind of optimistic resilience that he hadn't seen in many other dragons. She was compassionate and kind, but also stubborn when it mattered. He felt a warm feeling in his chest and realized how he felt. Why had it taken him so long?
Qibli leaned forward and kissed Kinkajou on the cheek. Her face froze in shock and bursts of pink and yellow exploded across her wings and frill. Where he had kissed on her cheek was rosy with blush.
Kinkajou stared at Qibli for a minute, and he worried he might have made a mistake, until she kissed him back. He touched his lips daintily, the faint traces of fruit juice on them.
Qibli smiled at Kinkajou, feeling warmer than the desert, and he wondered what could be better than this?
