Truth

What happens when you tell the truth? For the past few months this has been a constant theme of my life. Telling the truth to your parents,  or your loved ones is not an easy task but it is also supposedly easier than telling the truth to the world which is ready to judge you at every turn! Apparently it is as tough if not more to tell the truth to your parents. Especially indian parents!  They teach you morality and ethics and set very high standards of truth, equality, kindness since early childhood. But the truth? They have never been truthful to themselves or others and they along with their contemporaries have been living an illusion of truth or their version of truth, which is supported by a web of lies masquerading as the truth in indian society where everyone pretends to be righteous and expect everyone to be of highest moral character. They are all deceiving themselves and the kids they brought up are a casualty to their hollow value system. Parents expect their children to be perfect, to be confident, smart, intelligent, truthful, successful, kind and of high integrity, moral values, and stature. They find it despicable that their children might have any kind of bad habit, such as talking back, smart mouth, spontaneity, their own mind, application of their own mind and ideas is the worst of it all. If at all their kids start to identify the cracks in their illusion of truth they quickly shake them up and give them a lecture on their archaic, never again updated laws of society and muffle any voice of truth that may peep out of their kids innocent mouth and curious eyes. For the love of God they say, let it go, why are you trying to destroy everything we have all so carefully built? For the love of God they say! God, my God that is another favorite topic of conversation,  brought forward at every convenient point of our everyday life! Is God really God of the universes or a matter of convenience and a tool for fear mongering, and a matter of political earnings not only to our parents but to the entire human race! Is God the all encompassing power or a political force of society driving civilization to their peak and then their ends? Well that's a question for another day.  Let's get back to truth, so what happens if you tell the truth? You would expect to be appreciated, admired, adulation of all and adoration of the enviable all for you, exactly how they show it in the movies! You get up one day and face your truth and then you walk out and tell the world what the truth really is! Contrary to popular belief telling the truth does not bode well for the speaker and they throw themselves in a ditch of neverending questions and ohhs and ahhs and how could you's? Telling the truth may bring redemption and freedom to a few but its not always the best course of action. Level your head, and think about it, do people really want to know the truth of anything?
Do we want to know the truth of life? Why are we here?
What should we do?
Where are we going?
where we will end up?
Are we living a real life?
Is this how life is supposed to be?
What is truth?
Is our truth the only one truth?

So many questions in life, we never ask.  Do we want to find the answers or we would rather stop at a ice-cream parlor or a coffee shop to have a quick break from life? Or to "enjoy life" whatever is meant by that!

The question is what happens when you tell the truth to people who you think will understand? They don't and they won't always. And that is the truth. We will not always find acceptance from people or the reaction we were hoping for but the beauty of truth is that it doesn't change. At our best and at our worst we will come to find that truth is the same, it's certain, and it is constant. Truth is powerful and not everyone can bear to hear it or see it. It is a powerful force and we all know to wield a powerful force we must be suitable vessels to contain it. Despite the misunderstandings and lack of acceptance you will find solace in truth and that is why it's worth keeping faith in it, and keeping close to the truth. Always.
